Full job description

Children’s Ministry Leader - Trinity Anglican Church

Trinity Anglican Church www.trinityottawa.ca is a growing, diverse and dynamic church located at 1230 Bank Street in Ottawa South. We are hiring a Children’s Ministry Leader to renew and enhance our ministry with children and their families and caregivers.

As the Leader of Trinity’s Children’s Ministry, you will have a strong Christian faith that you are able to articulate and share with both children and their parents and caregivers. You will guide our children and their families in their exploration of what it means to be followers of Jesus in the context of our Trinity Anglican Church community, providing and supporting spiritual and faith formation, and encouraging a sense of belonging and community.

The Children’s Ministry Leader will:
  • Work with others to create a strong Sunday experience for our children, including age-appropriate learning about their faith through play, prayer, story, song and worship, creating a link with faith formation at home
  • Create a welcoming culture for children, including new children, before, during and after Sunday worship and at other gatherings. Greet children by name and provide orientation for parents and caregivers, allowing them to worship and setting them at ease.
  • Enable and support faith and spiritual formation at home. Provide take-home materials linked to Sunday learning, seasonal at-home supports, training and support for parents, and home visits.
  • Encourage community, gatherings and worship for children and their families beyond our regular Sunday worship.
  • Communicate well and frequently with children, parents and caregivers, providing regular contact, encouragement and pastoral care.
  • Reach out beyond our existing community through social media, website, local newspapers, neighbourhood engagement and advertising
  • Work with the congregation and worship leaders of Trinity to foster the visible participation of the children in worship and in the life of our church community. You will look for ways to bring the children into active participation in the regular worship services as they grow in their understanding of the Christian faith
  • Create, and manage, a great volunteer culture
  • Ensure the safety of our children.
We are looking for someone who is:
  • Has experience working with children.
  • Well-organized and responsible, an energetic self-starter who will engage with our neighbourhood and build our children’s ministry.
  • Relationship-oriented, who will build strong relationships with our children and youth, our volunteers, leaders, clergy and the broader Trinity and Ottawa South community.
  • Able to communicate fluently, in person and using email and social media;
  • An advocate for children and youth within our community.
  • Someone who isn’t afraid to laugh and be silly with our children– we want our children to have fun!
This is a contract position of 14-16 hours per week. Compensation will be in the range of $22-25/hour. A vulnerable sector police record check and references will be required.

The Anglican Diocese of Ottawa is committed to equity and inclusion and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates. We are an equal-opportunity employer and will accommodate applicants under the Ontario Human Rights Code and AODA. Please contact us at hr@ottawa.anglican.ca if you require accommodation.
