About the Role

We are looking for a dependable and motivated Assistant Store Manager to support the day-to-day operations of our retail store and assist with our in-store café when needed.

This position works closely with the Store Manager to ensure smooth daily operations, support and supervise employees, maintain a high standard of customer service, and help coordinate activities between the retail store and café.

The ideal candidate is organized, responsible, comfortable leading a team, and willing to be hands-on in both a retail and food-service environment. Previous retail management or supervisory experience is preferred, and experience in a café, restaurant, or other food-service environment is considered an asset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Store Manager with daily store operations and overall store performance.
  • Supervise, support, and provide directions to retail and café employees as required.
  • Take responsibility for store operations when the Store Manager is unavailable.
  • Help train and onboard new employees and provide ongoing coaching and guidance.
  • Assist with employee scheduling, break coordination, and daily task assignments.
  • Ensure employees follow company policies, procedures, customer service standards, and applicable food-safety practices.
  • Provide friendly and professional customer service and assist with escalated customer concerns.
  • Monitor store presentation and ensure shelves, displays, and promotional areas are clean, organized, and properly stocked.
  • Assist with receiving shipments, inventory organization, replenishment, and stock counts.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate stock or operational concerns to management.
  • Support opening and closing procedures, including cash handling and end-of-day responsibilities.
  • Assist the in-store café during busy periods or when additional coverage is required.
  • Support basic café operations, including customer service, order preparation, cleaning, restocking, and maintaining an organized work area.
  • Help ensure café employees follow proper food handling, sanitation, cleanliness, and safety procedures.
  • Assist with inventory and supply management for both retail and café operations.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the store and café.
  • Identify operational issues and work with management to resolve them efficiently.
  • Complete basic administrative duties and maintain accurate operational records as required.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the retail store, café, and management team.

Qualifications

  • Previous retail, customer service, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Previous café, restaurant, food-service, or food-handling experience is preferred.
  • Previous leadership or management experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is an asset.
  • Food Handler Certification is an asset.
  • Chinese or Japanese language skills are considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Reliable, responsible, and comfortable working independently when required.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a busy retail and food-service environment.
  • Comfortable handling customer concerns and making day-to-day operational decisions.
  • Basic computer and point-of-sale (POS) system skills.
  • Ability and willingness to assist in both retail and café operations as needed.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Pay: $16.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
