Located in downtown Toronto, our new 223 room hotel will feature multiple restaurants, bars, a spa, and approximately 10,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space. Join our opening culinary team and help create memorable dining and event experiences for our guests.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Food and Beverage the Barista prepares quality coffee, tea and other café beverages while providing welcoming, efficient service and maintaining a clean, organized café area. During pre-opening, this role will participate in training, outlet or event set up and opening-readiness activities while learning Le Méridien and Marriott service standards.

Key Responsibilities

· Welcome guests, explain beverage and food options, and take orders accurately.

· Prepare espresso, brewed coffee, tea and other beverages consistently according to recipes and presentation standards.

· Operate espresso machines, grinders and brewing equipment, monitoring drink quality and consistency.

· Prepare and serve café food items as assigned, following food safety and presentation procedures.

· Confirm milk preferences and dietary requests and follow procedures for communicating and handling allergens.

· Enter orders into the point-of-sale system, process payments and room charges, and follow cash-handling procedures.

· Keep counters, displays and service areas clean, organized and stocked throughout the shift.

· Clean and care for coffee equipment according to procedures and report faults promptly.

· Receive and rotate stock, check product freshness and monitor waste.

· Complete opening and closing duties and respond to guest concerns with support from a supervisor.

· Participate in pre-opening training, beverage tastings, equipment familiarization and service rehearsals.

Qualifications and Experience

· Previous barista or café experience is preferred, ideally in an upscale hospitality setting.

· Practical knowledge of espresso preparation, milk steaming and coffee equipment is an asset.

· Friendly communication skills and a focus on consistent beverage quality.

· Ability to work efficiently during busy periods while maintaining order accuracy and cleanliness.

· Comfort using point-of-sale systems and handling payments.

· Knowledge of food handling, sanitation and allergen awareness is an asset.

· Ability to perform the duties of the role, including standing for extended periods, repetitive beverage preparation and lifting and carrying café supplies, with accommodation where required.

· Flexible availability, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays, based on operational needs.
