Full job description
Who we are
Since 1994, New North Fuels has been delivering the fuel, lubricants and equipment that keep Northeastern Ontario working, from Manitoulin Island to north of Timmins, with offices in Sudbury, Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie and Massey.
We are proud members of the PetroNor family, a Cree-owned energy company serving Northern Quebec since 2002. This role is based at our Sudbury head office and is part of a shared HR team that supports both companies: one role, two companies, two provinces.
Your role in a nutshell
For us, recruiting is a key driver of growth. You’ll be our HR presence in Ontario: finding the right people, from Class AZ drivers to specialized professionals, then making sure their first weeks with us go smoothly, right up to the end of their onboarding.
What you’ll do
Find great people
- Recruit for all our needs: drivers, mechanics, office staff and more complex professional roles
- Headhunt for positions that call for strong business acumen and a good understanding of our industry
- Build talent pools, so we already have candidates in mind when a position opens
- Explore other markets and benchmark, to stay competitive and start conversations with people who might be interested in joining us
Help our employer brand shine
- Be our face in Northeastern Ontario: job fairs, colleges, communities and regional events in Sudbury, Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie and beyond
- Build relationships with candidates before a position even opens. Grabbing a coffee with a truck driver who has questions is part of the job
- Help us tell our story better, so people understand who we are in a few seconds
Make every first day a success
- Welcome new hires, introduce them to the company and build a sense of belonging from day one
- Adapt onboarding to each person: some prefer digital tools, others prefer face-to-face
- Follow each new hire through to the end of their onboarding
Orchestrate training
- Safety comes first here. You won’t deliver the training, but you’ll conduct the orchestra
- Make sure every employee has the required training before they start, for example before a driver hits the road
- Schedule training, track deadlines and keep records up to date
Work as a team
- You’ll be part of a small, close-knit HR team of three, working between Sudbury and Amos
- You’ll take part in all our HR projects, including company events
Learn payroll, one step at a time
- Our payroll specialist does remarkable work, but sometimes finds it hard to take a vacation
- We’d like you to gradually learn how our payroll works: one or two things a month, at your own pace
- Over time, you’ll be able to step in when needed
The North is your playground
We’ll take the time to help you understand our business. You’ll visit our sites in Ontario and Quebec, from our bulk plant in Little Current on Manitoulin Island to our aircraft refuelling station at La Grande Rivière airport, near Radisson.
On the move
You’ll work from our Sudbury office. Plan on 3 to 4 consecutive days a month with the HR team in Amos, Quebec, and occasional trips to Timmins and our other Ontario sites. All travel expenses are covered.
Recruiting can be learned
Not much recruiting experience? That’s not a deal-breaker. If you’re a people person, good at reaching out to others (in sales, for example), organized with admin work, and comfortable with technology and AI, we can train you.
A talent acquisition background is ideal, of course, but we’re open to different paths.
What we’re looking for
- Bilingual, English and French, spoken and written. You’ll work every day with our team in Quebec and support our people in Ontario, so this is our number one priority
- Living in or near Sudbury, or ready to relocate
- Comfortable prospecting, by phone and online
- Resourceful, and at ease speaking in front of a group
- 3 to 5 years of experience in an administrative role following up with internal and external partners
- Tact and poise, to lead business conversations and explain our needs clearly
- The right tone at the right time: sometimes business language, sometimes a chat at the counter with a trucker who wants his reality understood. We’re looking for someone who adapts to people, not the other way around
Bonus points
- You know LinkedIn inside out for sourcing (LinkedIn Recruiter, Boolean search)
- Experience in the trucking or transportation industry
- You know the Northeastern Ontario job market
- A bachelor’s degree in human resources
Not sure you fit the profile?
Apply anyway. You might surprise yourself. We look first for motivation, resourcefulness and people skills. The rest, we can teach you.
