Full job description

Carnatic Café is a growing South Indian tiffin and catering service, delivering fresh, home-style meals Monday through Friday, along with event catering and live catering. We currently serve 15–20 tiffins a day and are on a mission to scale to 200+ tiffins a day — and we're looking for an Operations & Growth Manager to help lead that growth.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This is an end-to-end, owner-style role. You'll run day-to-day tiffin operations, own the customer experience from first inquiry through onboarding, drive marketing and growth, and manage catering (including live, on-site catering) from quote to final cleanup. You'll work closely with the kitchen team and report directly to the owners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Tiffin Operations (Mon–Fri)

  • Oversee the daily tiffin production and delivery schedule, ensuring meals go out on time every day.
  • Coordinate with the kitchen on daily menu, quantities, packing, and dispatch.
  • Monitor food quality, hygiene, and packaging standards.
  • Track daily order volumes and manage recurring/subscription customers.
  • Troubleshoot delivery and order issues in real time.

Customer Experience & Onboarding

  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries across phone, WhatsApp, email, and social media.
  • Onboard new tiffin subscribers — explain menus and plans, set up recurring orders, and record dietary preferences.
  • Handle complaints and feedback, resolving issues quickly and professionally.
  • Build simple retention practices such as check-ins and feedback loops.

Marketing & Business Growth

  • Lead marketing efforts — social media, local community outreach, referral programs, and partnerships — to grow daily volume from ~15–20 toward our 200-tiffin goal.
  • Track leads and conversion, and run promotions or offers.
  • Represent the brand at community events and tastings.
  • Identify new customer segments and growth channels (offices, campuses, events, etc.).

Catering Operations

  • Field catering inquiries and gather event requirements: guest count, menu, dietary needs, date, and venue.
  • Convert inquiries into confirmed catering orders.
  • Price each order based on menu, quantity, and complexity, and prepare the quote for the customer.
  • Get pricing and order approval from the owners before confirming with the client.
  • Brief the kitchen on confirmed order details — menu, quantities, timing, and how food should be packed or served.
  • Coordinate staffing, equipment, and logistics for each event.

Live Catering Execution

  • Plan and pack the equipment needed for on-site service (chafing dishes, serving stations, etc.).
  • Transport food and equipment to the client's venue.
  • Set up and manage live food service on-site, ensuring quality and presentation.
  • Coordinate breakdown, cleanup, and equipment return after the event.
  • Act as the on-site point of contact for the client throughout the event.

Administration

  • Maintain order records, pricing sheets, and the customer database.
  • Give the owners regular updates on operations, sales, and growth metrics.
  • Support vendor and supplier coordination as needed.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Prior experience in food service, catering, restaurant, or hospitality operations preferred.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Comfortable with sales, marketing, and business development (social media savvy is a plus).
  • Highly organized and able to multitask across daily operations and event-based catering.
  • Willing to work some evenings/weekends for live catering events.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle, for transporting catering equipment.
  • Comfortable handling pricing, quotes, and basic financial tracking.
  • Familiarity with South Indian cuisine or culture is a plus, but not required.
  • Food handling/safety certification, or willingness to obtain one.

Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 – 50.0 per week

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule

Work Location: In person
