Role overview

We are the dealer for Xplore Internet seeking a skilled, seasoned Telecom Field Technician to handle the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network infrastructure and security systems in your Area in the radius of 150kms. This position offers high flexibility, making it ideal for independent contractors or technicians looking to supplement their current workload.

Key responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot Ethernet networks and computer networking equipment.
  • Perform electrical work related to low voltage systems and telecommunication infrastructure.
  • Use hand tools and mechanical knowledge to assemble, repair, or modify network components.
  • Conduct site surveys to assess existing infrastructure and recommend improvements.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to telecommunication hardware and wiring.
  • Document system configurations, network layouts, and service reports accurately.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry best practices during all installation and maintenance activities.
  • Travel to various commercial and residential client sites throughout the province.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience with Ethernet cabling, computer networking, and telecommunication systems.
  • Mechanical knowledge with proficiency in using hand tools for installation and repair tasks.
  • Familiarity with low voltage wiring, electrical systems, and safety procedures.
  • Strong understanding of telecommunication infrastructure including wiring diagrams and system configurations.
  • Ability to work independently as an contractor while managing multiple job sites effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail in troubleshooting complex network issues.
  • Relevant certifications or training in networking or telecommunications are a plus but not mandatory. This position offers the opportunity for experienced technicians to leverage their skills in a flexible contracting role supporting critical communication infrastructure projects across various locations.

Requirements

  • Must possess active WCB Alberta coverage, valid Commercial General Liability (CGL) insurance, valid GST number
  • Operate as independent contractor (registered business)
  • Mobility: Valid driver’s license and a reliable personal vehicle capable of transporting equipment and ladders.
  • Tools of the Trade: Must own standard hand/power tools and telecom testing equipment (drills, termination tools, testers, fiber glass ladders).
  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience in low-voltage cabling, networking fundamentals, and hardware mounting.
  • Soft Skills: Ability to work independently, troubleshoot on-site, and maintain a professional demeanor with clients.

Pay: $75,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
