Systems Administrator - Remote Canada

Pay: CA$65,000.00 to CA$75,000.00 per year
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Remote, Canada, Eastern Time business hours

Technical Lab Evidence Strongly Preferred

A demonstrable technical lab or test environment that you personally operate, understand and can demonstrate will be considered a significant asset.

Candidates are encouraged to upload one document containing three to six screenshots showing:

  • Your hypervisor or cloud console with labelled systems
  • A VLAN, trunk, routing, firewall or other network configuration
  • At least one server, cloud, security, monitoring, backup or infrastructure component

Hyper-V, VMware, Proxmox, Azure, AWS, Sophos Firewall Home Edition, pfSense, OPNsense, GNS3, EVE-NG, Cisco Modeling Labs, Packet Tracer, Docker, Kubernetes and comparable platforms are acceptable. Physical hardware is not required.

Candidates who submit lab evidence and are shortlisted may be asked to provide a recorded tour and demonstrate the same environment through a live screen share.

Strong submissions will show depth and variety, such as:

  • Multiple VLANs and inter-VLAN routing
  • Trunking, VPNs, firewalls and ACLs
  • Firewall (e.g. Sophos Firewall Home Edition) with NAT, VPN, web filtering, etc. configured
  • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy
  • Multiple virtual networks or simulated sites
  • Monitoring, SIEM or centralized logging
  • Backup and restore testing
  • Databases, application servers or RDS (Remote Desktop Services)
  • Azure or AWS networking
  • Automation or infrastructure as code

A generic lab description, basic Packet Tracer topology or single standalone VM will carry less weight than evidence of a broader environment.

Visual lab evidence is strongly preferred and may be used to prioritize applications for review.

The Role

This is a hands-on L3 MSP Systems Administrator position.

You will work a busy ticket queue, handle L1/L2 escalations and own difficult or stalled issues through to resolution.

We want a ticket owner: someone who investigates thoroughly, communicates clearly and remains accountable until the underlying problem is resolved.

This is not a slow internal IT or escalation-only role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide L3 support across desktops, servers, Microsoft 365, Azure and client networks
  • Work regular tickets alongside technical escalations
  • Troubleshoot Windows, application, performance and connectivity issues
  • Troubleshoot VLANs, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, VPNs and firewalls
  • Administer Windows Server, Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Support Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune and Azure
  • Support Hyper-V, VMware and other virtualized environments
  • Use PowerShell or scripting to automate recurring work
  • Maintain clear ticket notes, documentation and client updates

Required Skills

  • MSP or multi-client support experience
  • Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Windows Server and Active Directory
  • Practical networking: VLANs, trunking, routing, switching, NAT, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls and subnetting
  • Hyper-V, VMware, Proxmox or comparable virtualization
  • EDR or MDR platform experience
  • Strong PowerShell, Event Viewer and command-line troubleshooting
  • Independent ownership of issues through resolution
  • Strong client communication and documentation
  • Located in Canada with a quiet home office and reliable internet

Preferred Experience

  • Azure or AWS networking
  • Intune and Windows Autopilot
  • Datto RMM, Autotask and IT Glue
  • Sophos, Veeam, Fortinet, SonicWall, Meraki or Ubiquiti
  • Microsoft certifications
  • An actively maintained technical lab

How to Apply

Submit:

  • Résumé
  • LinkedIn profile
  • Lab Evidence Package, where available
  • Short cover letter; candidates submitting lab evidence should reference the systems shown

Benefits

Private Health Services Plan providing reimbursement for eligible:

  • Dental expenses
  • Vision care
  • Prescription medications
  • Chiropractic care
  • Massage therapy

Additional Benefits:

  • Remote-first position
