Full job description

About ProCharted

ProCharted is a practice management software built for small accounting firms across Canada. We help firms manage their clients, deadlines, and workflows through tax season and beyond, and we're expanding what our platform can do. We're a founder-led team that ships quickly, talks to customers every week, and knows the accounting industry inside out.

The role

We're hiring a software engineer whose core mission is Windows desktop automation: software that drives desktop applications programmatically — reliable keyboard/mouse input synthesis, screen reading, and graceful recovery from unexpected UI states. This is the heart of our next generation of features, it's technically deep, and it has to be boringly dependable in production. Around that core, you'll also build across our SaaS platform and set the engineering bar for the team.

What's on your plate:

  • Designing and hardening Windows desktop automation components — input synthesis, screen reading, focus and timing management, recovery from unexpected UI states
  • Making automation reliable enough that accounting firms trust it with real client work
  • Building and maintaining features across our SaaS platform (C#/.NET backend, React frontend, Azure)
  • Reviewing, refactoring, and productionizing code built with AI-assisted development tools — you set the engineering bar
  • Implementing security best practices end to end — our customers handle sensitive personal and financial data (encryption, access controls, PIPEDA-conscious data handling)
  • Helping choose the stack, tooling, and standards as the engineering team grows around you

What we're looking for

  • Hands-on experience with UI automation, RPA, or desktop input simulation — Windows UI Automation API, SendInput-level work, UiPath/Power Automate internals, AutoHotkey/AutoIt, or automation you've built yourself to drive desktop applications. This is the requirement that matters most.
  • 5+ years of professional software development
  • Strong Windows development experience — C#/.NET preferred (deep experience in C++, Rust, or Python also welcome)
  • A hacker mentality in the best sense: you enjoy figuring out how software behaves from the outside and making it do things it wasn't designed to do — paired with the discipline to build it reliably
  • Security-minded by default; experience with sensitive data (fintech, healthtech, or similar) is a plus
  • Comfortable working with AI coding tools and LLM APIs as part of a modern workflow
  • Self-directed: you'll often be the most senior technical voice in the room on engineering quality

Why join

  • Small team, real customers, direct impact, your work ships to accounting firms across Canada
  • A meaty technical challenge most SaaS jobs never offer: desktop automation done right
  • Work directly with founders who know the customer cold and move fast
  • Competitive salary and room to grow into a leadership role as the team expands

Pay: $120,000.00-$185,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Extended health care
  • Flexible schedule
  • On-site parking
  • Paid time off
  • Work from home
