Position Description

Altomaxx Technologies is seeking a certified UT Level 2 and/or Level 3 Technician to join our growing field operations team as a drone pilot specializing in drone-based Ultrasonic Testing and Measurement (UTM). This is an exciting opportunity to apply your NDT expertise in a cutting-edge aerial inspection environment, working with advanced RPAS platforms to deliver high-quality ultrasonic data across a variety of industrial assets.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, technically proficient, and comfortable working in diverse field conditions both domestically and internationally. A willingness to travel is essential, as Altomaxx operates an active portfolio of projects across Canada and around the globe.

Primary Position Responsibilities

  • Conduct drone-based ultrasonic testing (UTM) operations in the field on pipelines, pressure vessels, storage tanks, and other industrial infrastructure, as well as offshore vessels and environments
  • Perform the duties of a pilot, crew member, visual observer, or payload operator as required
  • Interpret and analyze UT data, prepare inspection reports, and communicate findings to clients and project leads
  • Operate a variety of drone platforms and UT sensor payloads
  • Acquire field data using established NDT techniques and methods
  • Support other drone-based data collection activities as required, including visual inspections, photogrammetry, and additional sensor payload operations
  • Maintain, monitor, and document preventative maintenance on field equipment and other assets
  • Adhere to all applicable safety regulations and Altomaxx standard operating procedures
  • Ability to sign off on Altomaxx’ written practice, approve training programs, and formally certify personnel (Level 3 only)

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • CGSB or equivalent certification as UT Level 2 or Level 3 Technician
  • Transport Canada RPAS Advanced Operations Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Demonstrated experience performing ultrasonic thickness measurements and weld inspections
  • Experience with confined space entry
  • Valid safety certifications (First Aid, H2S Alive, BST, Confined Space, Fall Arrest, IRATA, etc.) considered an asset
  • Experience with drone flying and operations considered an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting

Conditions of Employment

  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally — a valid passport and drivers license are required
  • Willing and able to pass routine drug screening on a regular basis
  • Valid driver’s licence

Preferred Experience

  • Additional NDE certifications (MT, PT, RT, or PAUT)
  • Experience with drone-based UT or other aerial NDT methods
  • Experience with confined space entry
  • Experience with drone flying and operations
  • Experience in offshore environments
  • Experience in the oil and gas, pipeline, or petrochemical sectors
