Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Financial Controller to lead our finance department. This pivotal role involves overseeing all financial operations, ensuring accurate accounting practices, and supporting strategic growth initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive mindset, strong leadership skills, and expertise in various accounting software tools to drive financial excellence across our resort.

The Controller oversees the Accounting Team of 4 employees.

REPORT CHAIN:

Reports to Finance Director

DURATION:

Full Time Year Round

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Will rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

· Applicant will work closely with the Accounting Team and provide leadership.

· As head of the Accounting department, will be responsible for all of the financial requirements requested by the Company and Pacific Group Resorts (PGR).

· This position also supervises the administrative requirements for the Company and the Vernon office.

· Oversees the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports and present findings and recommendations to senior leadership team and PGR.

· Oversees the lodging owner statements for Property Management.

· Oversees the in Resort Cash Office and reconciliations.

· Preparing and reporting on Cash Flow projections, forecasting, and other financial planning tools and reports.

· Ensure compliance with provincial and federal reporting requirements and tax filings. Establish and monitor internal controls within all systems in respect to financial policies, processes and procedures. Create and maintain a strong control environment while ensuring full transparency through analysis and recommendations.

· SilverStar representative for the annual financial statement audit and communication with external auditors.

· Supporting the Finance Director, assists with preparation of annual Operating Budget and presentation to PGR. Works closely with managers and assists with their departmental operating budgets.

· Maintaining the organization’s accounting principles, practices, procedures and initiatives.

· Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budgets. Work closely with department managers to develop business plans and provide advice and guidance to managers in respect to all accounting matters.

· Recommend benchmarks for measuring financial and operating performance.

· Works closely with our Risk & Assurance Director with insurance renewals and reporting requirements, as well as capital and operating leases.

· Supporting the Finance Director, assists in overseeing the Payroll administrator’s processes and records payroll journal entries and reconciles payroll accounts.

· Highly knowledgeable with all Point of Sale (POS) and inventory management software. Assist with back of systems setup, including security, payment and product items, and integration with accounting software.

· Promotes and maintains positive corporate relations within the community and guests.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

· CPA designation required.

· Over five years’ experience in a Financial Controller or senior level accounting position, with management and supervisory experience.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

· Knowledge of automated financial reporting systems.

· Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel.

· Proficient written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are vital to the role.

· Ability to adapt to and quickly learn new systems and software.

· Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as operate independently.

· Display self-initiative in identifying issues and improve processes.

· Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.

· High level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel may be required
  • Valid, clean BC driver’s license
  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
  • May require weekend work
  • Overtime as required
