Full job description

Education at CAMH is seeking a full-time, temporary (15 months) Community Health and Education (CH&E) Specialist (Instructional Designer) to support the design, development and implementation of online courses and simulation-based learning experiences for health professionals.

Reporting to the Director of Learning and Education Integration, the CH&E Specialist will identify the training needs of intended learners, apply best practices in instructional design and curriculum development to create tailored interactive courses, e-learning programs, and simulation-based education as well as support the creation of user guides, web-based resources, quick reference guides, job aids and other learning and support materials, as needed.


Responsibilities

The CH&E Specialist will apply adult education and learning theories and instructional design models, as well as the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility (EDIA) to the development of education and training. The successful candidate will generate evidence-based content for e-learning programs and develop engaging learning activities that include branching scenarios, case studies, gamification, and virtual simulation to enhance the learning process.

The CH&E Specialist will collaborate with team members in the simulation centre, digital innovation, and evaluation teams, as well as subject matter experts, including healthcare professionals and clinical teams and lived experience experts, and other internal and external interest holders. They will also support evaluation to assess outcomes of educational activities and will work collaboratively with research teams to report on educational outcomes and impact, and advance scholarship. The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple aspects of work simultaneously and work both independently and as part of a diverse team. The CH&E Specialist will stay up to date with best practices, innovations, research, theories, technologies, and trends in the education field.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology or related discipline with three (3) years of experience as a lead instructional designer, creating evidence-based adult education. Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theories, instructional design models, curriculum development, and current and emerging learning technologies is required. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the following areas as it relates to online learning is also required: inter-professional collaboration and simulation, adult education, instructional design, the educational needs of health professionals and other professional staff in addiction and mental health, delivery of educational programming, health promotion and prevention, and educational materials for patients and families.

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with learning management systems such as Moodle and Docebo and eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate (Storyline and Rise), and web conferencing software such as WebEx, Microsoft Teams or Zoom is required as well as knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and WCAG 2.0 principles are required. Demonstrated experience integrating AI into day-to-day work and curiosity and drive to identify innovative ways AI can enhance work processes and support learner experience. Previous experience in a healthcare and/or academic setting is preferred. Demonstrated ability to search, identify, and summarize relevant evidence (i.e., conducting comprehensive literature reviews) is required. Knowledge of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles and how to integrate them into instructional design and curriculum development is required. Familiarity with accreditation requirements for governing bodies of health care professionals is required. Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral/written), creative problem-solving and organizational skills are required. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a self-directed manner, as well as collaboratively in a team setting is required. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to and manage changing priorities is required. Bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset.

Portfolio or samples of previous eLearning work developed will be required.

Salary Range: $37.51 – $50.60 per hour
