About Us:
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. The OPP is a division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the largest operational ministry in the province with a presence in every community across Ontario. We are the largest police service in Ontario and the second largest in Canada.
The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) performs ground-breaking investigative work to address this criminally lucrative sector and houses a multidisciplinary team of uniform and civilian subject matter experts to investigate and prosecute serious fraud and complex financial crimes. OPP members of the SFO are joined by subject matter experts with representation from the Ministry of the Attorney General and our municipal policing partners in Ontario.

About the job
To conduct financial crime investigations that could involve forensic accounting and/or forensic data recovery, gather evidence and conduct analysis of complex records. Interview witnesses, suspects and accused persons. Identify trends and develop investigative strategies that will develop, enhance and clarify evidence. Prepare and execute search warrants and provide court testimony.What you bring to the team
Mandatory Requirements
- Valid Ontario Driver's Licence.
- Special Constable appointment status which include the ability to pass an OPP background security investigation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of federal and provincial statutes including current case law and decisions pertaining to the gathering of evidence to perform assigned duties. Understanding scope and limitations of judicial authorizations, the development of court documents such as search warrants, reporting and presentation tools and techniques to produce and present findings for disclosure and in court testimony.
- Knowledge of investigative techniques, judicial process, rules of evidence and court procedures, as well as related legislation, regulations, and statutes to carry out investigations.
- Knowledge of accounting theory, practices, policies and audit standards and procedures to understand and analyze complex business accounting systems, financial statements, and to identify areas requiring investigation.
- Knowledge of various computer software programs to understand computerized accounting records, consolidating and managing information gathered during investigations, prepare correspondence, crown briefs, working papers and schedules.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to identify and resolve practical/technical/procedural problems in situations requiring immediate response and in determining how best to obtain evidence/information to pursue legal action.
- Oral communication skills and interpersonal skills to liaise with a diverse group of SFO staff, law enforcement agencies and crown attorneys, provide technical advice and support and communicate complex financial information revealed during investigations.
- Analytical, problem-solving, and evaluative skills to conduct financial investigations including the location and evaluation of electronic data.
- Note: Requirement to work on a regularly scheduled on call basis.
