We are currently seeking qualified Heavy Equipment Operators to join our on-site Construction team for one month, based out of a remote camp location near Fort MacKay, Alberta. This position offers the opportunity to participate in construction on the Imperial Oil (IOL) Kearl Lake Sodium Citrate Injection Process System. The shift is planned to be 21 days on and 7 days off rotation, 10-hour days. While the preference is to hire candidates who resides locally, fly-in, fly-out from Edmonton, Alberta or Calgary, Alberta will be available based on eligibility.

Hourly rate: $50.77/hr.


Job Description


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures
  • Participate in daily safety meetings, hazard assessments, and toolbox talks
  • Adhere to ground disturbance and permitting requirements prior to excavation
  • Identify and report hazards, incidents, and near misses
  • Promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement
  • Operate heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, zoom boom, skid steer, compactors)
  • Perform excavation, grading, backfilling, and material handling
  • Conduct pre-use inspections and basic equipment maintenance checks
  • Execute work according to drawings, specifications, and quality standards
  • Assist with layout verification and ensure adherence to tolerances
  • Ensure work meets project specifications and quality requirements
  • Confirm completed work supports downstream construction activities
  • Support efficient, schedule-driven execution in collaboration with site teams

Qualifications
  • Valid Heavy Equipment Operator certification or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of heavy civil construction experience (oil sands/mining preferred)
  • Experience in live operating environments (e.g., oil sands brownfield sites) and/or large EPC Projects is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in earthworks, site preparation, and infrastructure work
  • Strong knowledge of safe work practices and ground disturbance requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
  • GD level I or II and Zoom Boom Certification is required

As part of the recruitment process, successful clearance of applicable pre-employment checks is required which may include Criminal Background/Police Information check, Drug & Alcohol test, Reference checks as well as submittal of Provincial Driver’s Abstract. In addition, standard HSE certifications may be required including Confined Space, Fall Arrest, First Aid etc.
