About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our growing engineering team in the design, development, and commercialization of innovative downhole drilling tools. The successful candidate will play a key role in taking products from concept through design, testing, manufacturing, and field deployment.

This position is ideal for an engineer with hands-on experience designing products for demanding downhole applications who is comfortable working in a small company environment as part of a collaborative team. The role offers significant technical responsibility and opportunities to influence product development and company growth.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop downhole drilling tools and related mechanical systems for oil and gas applications.
  • Create detailed 2D CAD and 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing documents.
  • Perform engineering calculations including stress analysis, fatigue analysis, pressure containment, torque transmission, and material selection.
  • Evaluate tool performance and reliability in high-pressure, high-temperature, high-shock/vibration and abrasive downhole environments.
  • Support prototype development, assembly, testing, and validation activities.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, machine shops, suppliers, field personnel and clients to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
  • Conduct root cause failure investigations and implement corrective design improvements.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, design reviews, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with customers and operations teams to gather requirements and support field deployments.
  • Participate in intellectual property development and innovation initiatives.

Qualifications (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in Alberta.
  • 10+ years of direct experience designing downhole drilling tools; ideally with Measurement While Drilling (MWD) equipment, drilling motors, shock tools, jars, reamers, stabilizers, underreamers, vibration mitigation tools, or other similar drilling assemblies.
  • Strong understanding of machining, manufacturing processes, tolerancing, and material selection.
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles and engineering calculations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of API specifications and oilfield industry standards.
  • Experience supporting field trials and customer-facing technical discussions.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial small-company environment where engineers have direct influence on product development.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge drilling tool technologies and challenging engineering projects.
