Position Summary

The MWD Field Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and real-time monitoring of Measurement While Drilling (MWD) tools and systems. This role ensures accurate downhole data acquisition, reliable telemetry performance, and effective communication with drilling and directional teams to support safe, efficient, and successful well delivery.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, field troubleshooting experience, and the ability to perform under time-critical drilling conditions in remote environments.

Key Responsibilities

- Operate, maintain, and deploy MWD tools and surface systems on drilling locations
- Monitor real-time downhole data including inclination, azimuth, gamma, and drilling dynamics
- Ensure accurate survey acquisition and timely reporting to directional and drilling teams
- Troubleshoot tool, sensor, and telemetry issues under operational time constraints
- Support pulse and/or electromagnetic (EM) telemetry operations, including dual telemetry systems
- Maintain detailed documentation, job logs, and post-run reporting
- Collaborate with rig crews, directional drillers, and client representatives to optimize drilling performance
- Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Assist in monitoring vibration, shock, and downhole dynamics in challenging well environments

Required Qualifications & Experience

- 1–3+ years of MWD field experience (entry-level to mid-level depending on role)
- Working knowledge of MWD tools, sensors, and telemetry systems
- Experience with pulse and/or EM telemetry systems
- Strong understanding of drilling operations and downhole environments
- Proven ability to troubleshoot technical issues in real-time field conditions
- Willingness to work rotational schedules and remote drilling locations
- Strong attention to detail, reporting accuracy, and documentation skills

Preferred Skills & Experience

- Dual telemetry experience (Pulse/EM)
- Experience in horizontal and extended-reach well profiles
- Exposure to vibration, shock, and drilling dynamics monitoring tools
- Technical diploma, electronics background, or engineering degree
- Experience working in unconventional shale plays

Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.

The MWD role is open to both contractors and full-time employees, based on experience level and mutual agreement.
