The Role

Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our Mining & Minerals team. The role will be reporting to the Mechanical Department Manager; this position is in our Saskatoon, SK office.

Typical responsibilities:

  • Mechanical Engineering design related to mining and metal processing.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications, equipment lists, calculations, reports, design criteria, tender documentation, installation contract documents, and other documents.
  • Ensure documents are prepared as required by the project in accordance with the project, design criteria, statutory regulations, good-practice, and company procedural requirements.
  • Ensure that the designs produced support the method of construction and ease of plant maintenance and operations.
  • Ensure design engineering standards are maintained and adhered to on all projects.
  • Review and comment on design documents and drawings.
  • Review and approve vendor documentation for compliance with project specifications.
  • Liaise with site construction staff on technical queries on resolution of engineering design issues.
  • Allocate work and aid discipline engineers and designers on projects.
  • Input into progress reports, including listing achievements and highlighting issues as required.
  • Provide input into project proposals and estimates.
  • Work closely with other disciplines and Project Managers to ensure that the client’s objectives are met in a timely manner and are cost effective.
  • Ensure compliance and take initiative for safety and environmental issues.

Expected:

  • Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate (BSc) or Graduate degree.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada with the ability to register in the province of Saskatchewan is required.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years focusing on mining projects.
  • Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organizational skills

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of mining projects, is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of materials handling, mechanical package experience, and fabrication is considered an asset.
