Summit Motors — Taber, Alberta

Summit Motors is seeking an experienced and dependable Human Resources Business Partner to support our growing dealership group. Based at our head office in Taber, Alberta, this position provides human resources leadership and support to approximately three dealership locations in Taber, Brooks, and Medicine Hat.

As an International® truck dealership group, we operate in a fast-paced, service-focused environment where our employees are essential to our success. We are looking for a practical, approachable, and highly organized HR professional who can build strong working relationships, support managers, and oversee the day-to-day delivery of human resources, payroll, benefits, health and safety, and employee relations programs.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Coordinate the full recruitment and selection process, including job postings, applicant screening, interviews, reference checks, offers of employment, and pre-employment requirements.
  • Work with managers to identify staffing needs and develop effective recruitment strategies.
  • Coordinate new employee onboarding and conduct employee orientations.
  • Ensure employment documentation, personnel files, payroll records, and HR systems are accurate and complete.

Employee Relations and Performance Management

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employees and managers regarding human resources matters.
  • Provide practical advice and guidance to managers on attendance, performance, conduct, workplace concerns, and the consistent application of company policies.
  • Support employee coaching, performance reviews, disciplinary processes, performance improvement plans, investigations, and terminations.
  • Promote respectful, professional, and productive workplace relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee matters with sound judgment and discretion.

Payroll, Benefits, and HR Administration

  • Coordinate and process payroll accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Administer employee benefits and retirement savings programs, including employee enrolments, changes, terminations, and employee inquiries.
  • Prepare and maintain employment letters, compensation changes, payroll documentation, benefit records, and other HR-related correspondence.
  • Maintain accurate employee information within payroll, benefits, timekeeping, and human resources systems.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding payroll, benefits, vacation, leaves of absence, company policies, and other employment-related matters.

Policies, Compliance, and Organizational Support

  • Develop, review, maintain, and communicate company policies, procedures, job descriptions, and HR documentation.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable employment legislation, company policies, and internal procedures.
  • Provide guidance regarding Alberta Employment Standards, human rights, privacy, accommodation, and other workplace requirements.
  • Support compensation reviews, organizational changes, workforce planning, employee engagement, and other HR initiatives.
  • Prepare HR reports, employee documentation, and information required by management.

Health, Safety, Disability, and WCB

  • Coordinate and maintain the company’s occupational health and safety program across all dealership locations.
  • Support health and safety committees, workplace inspections, hazard assessments, employee training, incident reporting, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain documentation required for the company’s Certificate of Recognition and health and safety management system.
  • Coordinate workplace injury, disability management, return-to-work, accommodation, and WCB claims.
  • Work with employees, managers, healthcare providers, insurers, and WCB representatives to support safe and timely returns to work.

Education and Experience

  • A diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • A CPHR designation, or progress toward the designation, is considered an asset.
  • Several years of progressive human resources experience, preferably in a generalist, advisor, or management-level role.
  • Experience supporting multiple locations or departments is considered an asset.
  • Experience with payroll, benefits administration, recruitment, employee relations, and occupational health and safety is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards, occupational health and safety legislation, human rights requirements, and HR best practices.
  • Experience in the automotive, heavy-duty equipment, transportation, manufacturing, trades, or service industry is considered an asset.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish credibility and positive working relationships with employees, managers, and senior leadership.
  • A practical and balanced approach to employee relations and problem-solving.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent judgment, professionalism, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative, team-focused environment.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn payroll, benefits, timekeeping, safety, and HR information systems.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically between the Taber, Brooks, and Medicine Hat locations.
