Full job description
Job Title: Trauma Counsellor
This position reports tothe Program Director
1. Job Overview:
The Trauma Counsellor is a member of the Trauma program team who works collaboratively with the Trauma Program Lead and program staff to provide trauma-informed counselling, support program facilitation, and support participants throughout their healing journey. This role contributes to a safe, culturally safe, and therapeutic environment that promotes healing and wellness.
2. Key Responsibilities:
a) Support the Trauma Program Lead in the facilitation and delivery of all aspects of the trauma treatment program.
b) Provide individual and group counselling to participants throughout every stage of their healing journey.
c) Build trusting, respectful, and therapeutic relationships with clients.
d) Facilitate therapeutic groups, educational sessions, and healing activities.
e) Support clients with program participation, assigned activities, and goal achievement.
f) Maintain accurate and timely client documentation and case notes.
g) Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical supervision, and staff training.
h) Assist with planning and participating in Indigenous cultural activities and ceremonies.
i) Support the day-to-day operations of the Trauma Program and collaborate with colleagues to ensure quality client care.
j) Perform other related duties as assigned.
3. Qualification Requirements:
a) Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Human Services, or another health or social sciences field; or a diploma in a related discipline with relevant counselling training and experience.
b) Experience providing counselling services, preferably in trauma treatment, mental health, substance use, or residential care.
c) Strong understanding of culturally safe, trauma-informed, relative(client)-centered, and strengths-based practice.
d) Excellent interpersonal, communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
e) Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic documentation.
f) Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and approaches to healing is considered a strong asset.
g) Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
4. Employment Requirements
Successful applicants must:
· Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining healthy personal and professional boundaries.
· Have a minimum of two (2) years of continuous sobriety from all alcohol and mind-altering substances, including social drinking and the use of cannabis or cannabis-derived products, and be willing to model and maintain an abstinent lifestyle in support of the therapeutic environment.
· Successfully complete a Criminal Record Check and any other pre-employment requirements.
