Full job description

Virtual Nurse Practitioner (Contractor)

The demand for our trauma-informed mental health assessment service has exceeded our expectations, and we're excited to be expanding our team once again.

We are seeking an experienced Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a modern understanding of trauma.

Join a specialized, trauma-focused clinic with strong clinical standards, and a collaborative, depth-oriented team.

About Us

Making Space Psychotherapy is an established trauma and relationship-focused clinic serving Hamilton and surrounding areas.

Our work goes beyond surface-level care. We focus on trauma, attachment history, and nervous system repair, while supporting a wide range of mental health concerns.

We are known for high-quality, thoughtful and specialized care with a team culture that values integrity, curiosity, accountability (and yes...humour).

This Role

We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner to provide:

  • Mental health evaluations & assessments
  • Trauma-informed assessments (including PTSD and complex trauma)
  • DSM-5 diagnostic assessments
  • ADHD & ASD assessments (including late diagnosis) and support
  • Diagnostic clarity across a number of issues including anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, ADHD etc.

This role is virtual, with the option for in-person, and is well-suited to someone who values depth, clinical nuance, and collaboration.

A key part of this role is the ability to thoughtfully differentiate between overlapping presentations - for example, where symptoms may reflect trauma, ASD, ADHD, OCD, anxiety, or other conditions - and to approach diagnosis with care, curiosity, and context.

You Might Be a Fit If You

  • Are a licensed Nurse Practitioner in Ontario with a specialty in mental health/psychiatry
  • Have great experience with mental health assessments and diagnosis
  • Work from a trauma-informed lens
  • Are comfortable holding clinical complexity and avoiding “quick labels”
  • Can assess all of these: ADHD, ASD, OCD and PTSD within the broader context of nervous system patterns, attachment and developmental history, and lived experience
  • Are organized and reliable with clinical visits and documentation
  • Value a high standard of care
  • Communicate clearly and hold strong professional boundaries
  • Enjoy a lot of freedom in your schedule

What We Offer

  • A collaborative, supportive team environment
  • Strong administrative and operations support
  • Beautiful, thoughtfully designed office space
  • High flexibility in scheduling
  • A clinic that genuinely invests in quality care and clinician support

Who You Work With

Our Nurse Practitioner Assessment Team has quickly become a valued part of our clinic, and with referrals continuing to grow, we're excited to be hiring a third Nurse Practitioner.

The Owner is an RP, clinical educator and experienced trauma therapist who walks the walk of "continuing education" with her team, with an active caseload and hundreds of hours each year in training and consultation. She oversees the clinical direction and standards of care. Her door is always open!

The Ops Manager is organized, on it, and an amazing source of information and support. She also shares the best gifs and knows exactly how and when to bring comic relief!

The Care Team is smart, efficient, incredibly organized and collaborative with you in the client experience. Also, they are super kind!

The Pscyhotherapist Team is a diverse community of talent, interests, backgrounds and experience - all under the umbrella of trauma and relationship work. Our Registered Psychotherapists and Social Worker Psychotherapists bring an exceptional level of care (and heart) to our clients.

*Application Process

  • Provide your resume
  • Include an informal cover letter that tells us who you are (no jargon please, real talk would be amazing).
  • Please tell us about your experience and what you are looking for in this role.
  • Please also speak to your experience within mental health and your ability to provide diagnostic clarity and treatment with our clients.
  • Thank you for your application!

To check us out: www.makingspacetherapy.ca

We appreciate the time you took to provide your submission, however we will only be contacting those selected for an interview with the Owner. Please do not call or text our clinic. THANK YOU!

Pay: $140.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule
  • On-site parking

Application question(s):

  • Do you have experience working with trauma?
  • Are you able to provide diagnostic clarity to distinguish between what may be trauma vs. ADHD? And can you diagnose adult autism (level one, low support, sometimes referred to as "high functioning")?
  • Are you currently licensed to practice in the province of Ontario?

Licence/Certification:

  • (EC) with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) (required)
