Job Summary
The Mental Health Team Leader provides support and clinical supervision to the Mental Health team. The Mental Health team offers services that include but are not limited to; assessments, counselling (one to one and group), and referrals for children, youth, and families living with mental health challenges and/or substance misuse. The Mental Health team is committed to providing services that are offered from a holistic wellness framework.
This position requires strong leadership skills and advanced knowledge and clinical experience in mental health and concurrent disorders in the context of Indigenous communities. Exceptional communication, critical thinking and organizational skills are necessary to be successful in this role. The selected individual will be responsible for direct supervision of the mental health team. The Mental Health Team Leader will be responsible for assisting with ongoing crisis prevention and intervention, assessment, case management, and co-ordination of appropriate community referrals for follow up as needed. The position oversees the day-to-day program operations while providing oversight and decision-making regarding program needs, requirements, and development in collaboration with management. The Mental Health Team Leader will provide quality assurance for staff and clients through regular monitoring and auditing to ensure contractual and regulatory compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Management & Supervision:
· Directs and monitors the integration and delivery of Mental Health Services to our 7 member communities and the urban Indigenous population in Kamloops.
· Provides leadership and guidance with clinical staff regarding difficult and complex cases.
· Provides on-going individual and group clinical supervision sessions using a variety of clinical supervision models and intervention techniques while implementing decolonized practice.
· Participates in area and regional planning and management by interfacing with other personnel to ensure integration and coordination of overall services to clientele.
· Provides consultation, assessment, and works collaboratively with both team and client to determine treatment plans and supports that best suit the individual and/or family’s needs.
· Builds therapeutic relationships based on trust for both team and clientele.
· Ability to recognize and respect all cultural diversity and understand and traditional approaches to practice. Participate in traditional Indigenous practice with community members to provide psycho education, prevention, or treatment in a collective community-based approach.
· Develop resources working to include holistic, spiritual, cultural, and traditional methods.
· Makes referrals for external assessment or treatment facilities, inclusive of the provision of pre- and post-planning support.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Clinical Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field or PhD in relevant field
- Registered with the British Columbia College of Social Work or British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors or eligibility for registration
- Minimum of 3 years of Clinical experience in the field of child and youth mental health and knowledge of concurrent disorders and substance use
- Minimum of 1 year of supervision experience
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of clinical experience in multiple therapeutic and intervention modalities with varied age groups, inclusive of individual, family, and group counselling
- Clinical experience in crisis intervention inclusive of suicide risk assessments
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work, and collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary, diverse team and respect all viewpoints
- Recognize the importance of incorporating Indigenous culture into healing and wellness
- Ability to handle crisis and participate in crisis intervention assistance.
- Strong understanding of social, economic, political, and historical concerns in First Nation communities
- Possessing knowledge of child and youth mental health with extensive knowledge of concurrent disorders and chemical dependency issues is required
Working Conditions:
- Travel to each of the seven communities.
- May be required to work some non-standard hours of work connected to services and community needs.
- Receives regular supervision with direction and review of program requirements.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Record Check.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid BC Driver’s License.
- Must be able to access reliable transportation to and from work
