REPORTS TO: Cedar House Supervisor
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Cedar House Support Worker provides compassionate, trauma-informed, culturally safe support to Indigenous women, children, and gender-diverse individuals accessing Cedar House services. The Support Worker assists residents in achieving safety, stability, healing, and independence by providing day to day support, advocacy, crisis intervention, referrals, and culturally grounded programming.
The Cedar House Support Worker contributes to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment while supporting the overall operation of the Cedar House.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
· Provide trauma-informed, culturally safe, and client-centred support to residents of Cedar House.
· Complete client’s intakes, assessments, safety planning, advocacy, referrals, and ongoing case documentation.
· Support residents in achieving their goals through crisis intervention, emotional support, life skills development, and connection to community resources.
· Assist in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and respectful shelter environment.
· Conduct regular safety and wellness checks, respond appropriately to emergencies, and follow all shelter policies and procedures.
· Support the day-to-day operation of Cedar House, including meal preparation, household responsibilities, inventory monitoring, and reporting maintenance concerns.
· Assist in planning and facilitating cultural, educational, recreational, and wellness programming that promotes healing, empowerment, and resilience.
· Support Elders, Knowledge Keepers, facilitators, and community partners during programming and events.
· Work collaboratively with the Cedar House Supervisor, NSNWA staff, external service providers, and community partners to coordinate services for residents.
· Maintain accurate client files, shift reports, incident reports, monthly statistics, and other required documentation.
· Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
· Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Cedar House Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Diploma or degree in a social services field, or a combination of relevant experience and education.
· Experience working in shelter services, crisis intervention, social services, or community support programs.
· Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally safe practices.
· Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with Indigenous communities and diverse populations.
· Knowledge of domestic violence, gender-based violence, interpersonal violence, and trauma-informed practices.
· Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
· Strong organizational skills and time management skills.
· Sound judgement and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
· Valid drivers license.
· Reliable transportation.
· Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
· Child Abuse Registry Check.
· Ability to work 12-hour shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts.
Salary: $23.00 per hour, based on experience and education.
