Day | Evening | Overnight Position 8AM-4PM, 4PM-12AM, 12AM-8PM (Rotating)

Her Recovery is seeking a qualified, compassionate and dependable Recovery Support Worker – Addiction & Mental Health to join our team.

This is a direct support position working with women receiving bed-based treatment for addiction and mental health concerns.

Our Recovery Support Workers play an important role in maintaining participant safety, supporting recovery and ensuring continuity of care during regular daytime hours and outside regular daytime hours. This position requires someone who is dependable, observant, comfortable working overnight and able to use sound judgment when situations arise.

Recovery Support Workers also contribute to the practical day to- ay operation of Her Recovery, including participant support, safety monitoring, medication assistance, meal preparation, documentation and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.

Effective recovery support requires more than compassion. It requires professional boundaries, sound judgment, reliability, cultural humility, strong communication, objective documentation and the ability to recognize when a concern needs to be escalated.

What You'll Do

• Provide compassionate, respectful, trauma-informed and recovery-oriented support.
• Support participants with evening and overnight routines.
• Transport participants to appointments (Day)
• Maintain a calm, safe and appropriately structured treatment environment.
• Remain awake, alert, observant and responsive throughout the overnight shift.
• Complete scheduled rounds and participant safety checks.
• Observe changes in participant behaviour, mood, physical health, mental health or overall presentation and communicate concerns appropriately.
• Recognize when a situation requires escalation to on-call leadership, medical or emergency support.
• Respond appropriately to participant distress, conflict and emerging safety concerns within your training and role.
• Follow established after-hours, emergency and critical incident procedures.
• Assist with participant admissions, transitions and discharges when required.
• Provide medication assistance within approved training, policy and role expectations.
• Prepare and serve assigned meals and snacks and assist with breakfast preparation for the following morning.
• Follow menus, documented dietary requirements, allergies and food safety procedures.
• Maintain clean and organized kitchen and dining areas.
• Transport or accompany participants to approved appointments, recovery meetings or community activities when required.
• Complete accurate, objective and timely shift documentation and incident reports.
• Provide a thorough handover to the incoming team.
• Maintain participant confidentiality and strong professional boundaries.
• Participate in mandatory training, team meetings and ongoing professional development. Cultural Safety Matters at Her Recovery

Recovery Support Workers must demonstrate cultural humility, respect for different identities, beliefs and cultural practices, and a willingness to continue learning.

Recovery Support Workers may also work respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural supports, families and community partners when they are involved in a participant's care or recovery.

Children May Occasionally Be On-Site

Her Recovery offers a family-inclusive treatment environment. Some participants may have their children stay with them during evenings and weekends.

Mothers remain responsible for the care and supervision of their children. Recovery Support Workers are not childcare providers and do not assume parental responsibilities.

Applicants must be comfortable working in an environment where children may sometimes be present. Staff are expected to remain attentive to their safety and well-being, provide reasonable practical support to mothers when needed, and recognize and appropriately report concerns regarding a child's safety or care.

Experience working with women, families and/or children is considered an asset.

Preference will be given to applicants with a diploma or degree in:

• Addictions and Mental Health
• Social Work or Social Services
• Child and Youth Care
• Psychology
• Human Services
• Community Support
• Health Care
• Another relevant human-services field

Applicants with a combination of relevant education, recognized training and demonstrated direct experience supporting individuals affected by addiction and/or mental health concerns may also be considered.

You Should Also Have

• Relevant experience supporting individuals affected by addiction, mental health concerns, trauma and/or complex needs.
• An understanding of addiction, recovery and mental health.
• Strong professional and ethical boundaries.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong written documentation skills.
• Emotional maturity and sound judgment.
• Ability to remain calm and professional during challenging situations.
• Ability to work responsibly during evening and overnight hours.
• Ability to remain awake, alert, observant and responsive throughout an overnight shift.
• Ability to recognize concerns and understand when they need to be escalated.
• Ability to work collaboratively with nurses, counsellors, leadership and other members of an interdisciplinary team.
• Cultural humility and the ability to work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Comfort working in an environment where children may occasionally be present.
• Ability to safely prepare meals and follow dietary and food safety requirements.
• Valid driver's licence and clear driver's abstract.
• Ability to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.

Training & Certifications

• First Aid/CPR
• Naloxone and overdose response
• Suicide intervention/response
• Crisis intervention and de-escalation
• Medication Assistance
• Food Safety/Food Handler Certification
• Cultural safety

Successful candidates will be required to complete all mandatory Her Recovery training applicable to their position.

You approach people with curiosity and respect rather than assumptions and understand the importance of providing culturally safe support.

You are reliable, professional and accountable. Most importantly, you understand that women receiving addiction and mental health treatment deserve dignity, compassion, consistency, safety and high-quality support.
