Company Overview

Troy Animal Hospital is a well established and independently owned 5 DVM Animal Hospital specializing in the care of companion animals. Our mission is to provide exceptional Veterinary services that enhance the health and well-being of pets, ensuring they receive the best possible care. We have recently moved and are enjoying our new location in Westover.

Summary

We have had significant growth since our move to Westover and are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Care Attendant to complement our Animal Care team. In this role, your primary focus will be attending to patients in-hospital, maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the hospital, as well as supporting the Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians in appointments and with procedures. The ideal candidate will possess a strong initiative and hardworking attitude, excellent communication and multitasking skills, and fine-tuned attention to detail. This position requires a strong commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and animal care.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting and supporting the Veterinary Technicians and Veterinarians in appointments and surgery, including animal restraint.
  • Attending to patients in-hospital and providing daily feeding, watering, kennel maintenance, and general care for animals in accordance with established protocols.
  • Monitoring and record keeping of the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to the Veterinary Technician team.
  • Assist in administering medications or treatments as directed by Veterinary Technicians and Veterinarians.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and ethical guidelines regarding animal handling and care.
  • Unpacking, organizing and stocking our daily supply order.
  • Surgery suite set up as well as cleaning and sanitation after procedures.
  • Stocking exam rooms, treatment area, and surgery suites daily and as needed.
  • Wrapping surgical packs and operating the autoclave.
  • Maintain a clean environment throughout the hospital by performing regular cleaning and sanitation tasks, completing daily, weekly and monthly checklists.
  • Learning our Practice Management Software and assist the reception team during down-time with appointment reminders and follow ups.
  • Handling all interactions with clients with a professional, friendly and empathetic attitude.

Skills and Requirements

  • Previous experience in the Veterinary field in an Animal Care Attendant or Veterinary Assistant role is an asset, and a requirement for this role.
  • Certificate from a recognized Animal Care Attendant or Veterinary Assistant program is strongly preferred and an asset, but not a requirement.
  • A genuine love for animals and a commitment to their welfare is essential.
  • Strong observational skills to identify changes in animal behavior and health.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with team members and supervisors, being part of a collaborative and communicative team.
  • Ability to respond positively to feedback is a must.
  • Takes personal pride in creating a sparkling, welcoming space.
  • Physical stamina to perform tasks that require standing, walking, lifting, and bending throughout the day.
  • In-house lab experience is preferred, but not a requirement.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, ability to think on your feet, and willingness to go above and beyond for patient care and your team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and remain calm in a fast paced environment, as well as efficient during less busy times.
  • Cheerful, empathetic, and positive disposition.
  • Tech savvy is a bonus!

Schedule

This role within our Veterinary Assistant team will require 4-10 hour shifts within the hours of 8:00am - 6:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and within the hours of 8:00am - 8:00pm on Wednesday. We are closed on weekends and holidays for the summer. Starting in September, one Saturday shift per month will be required, and more frequent Saturday shifts in the spring.
