Veterinary Assistant/CCR - The Animal Hospital of High Park

Founded in 1986, The Animal Hospital of High Park has been a fixture in the exotic animal community for over 30 years. In 2020, we moved to our new location just north of the Junction. We are a full-service companion and exotic animal hospital, and all our staff are trained in the care of cats and dogs, as well as all pets with fur, feathers, and scales.

We are searching for a Veterinary Assistant to join our amazing team! Other than being an avid animal lover, the ideal candidate that is a good fit for our team will also display a passion for being a positive support for all team members, and is enthusiastic and self-motivated to tackle each day and its challenges.

Position Summary:

The Veterinary Assistant/CCR is a key member of the hospital team who supports and assists the veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure the highest quality of medical care for our patients. This role involves a combination of animal handling, client interaction, and clinic maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with patient appointments, including safe and compassionate animal restraint.
  • Provide basic animal care, such as feeding, watering, walking, and bathing animals.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of the hospital, including exam rooms, treatment areas, surgical suites, and kennels.
  • Sterilize surgical instruments and other medical equipment.
  • Assist with laboratory procedures and the collection of samples.
  • Prepare patients for surgery and monitor them during recovery.
  • Communicate with clients in a professional and friendly manner, providing updates and instructions as directed by the veterinary staff.
  • Assist with front desk duties, such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and processing payments, as needed.
  • Ensure all patient enclosures are clean, comfortable, and secure.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience working or volunteering in a veterinary hospital or animal shelter is highly desirable.
  • A certificate from a recognized Veterinary Assistant or Animal Care program is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments, including exotic pets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to teamwork.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • A genuine passion for animal welfare and a compassionate approach to patient care.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
