Intermediate Underwriter

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for an experienced Intermediate Underwriter with a strong understanding of group insurance benefits and underwriting principles. You’ll use sound judgment and critical thinking to evaluate risk, prepare new business and renewal proposals, and work closely with internal teams and carrier partners to deliver competitive solutions. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable balancing detailed analysis, documentation and multiple priorities.

Who you are

You are an experienced group benefits underwriter who can assess risk, interpret benefit and contract language, and make well-supported underwriting decisions. You are analytical and detail-oriented, with strong critical thinking and documentation skills. You communicate clearly with internal teams and external partners and are comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines. You work collaboratively, take ownership of your work and look for opportunities to improve processes and support the broader underwriting team.

What you’ll do

• Analyze new business opportunities to evaluate risk and determine appropriate underwriting approaches.

• Prepare and document proposals for new and renewal business.

• Prepare renewal packages for small to medium-sized groups.

• Collaborate with Sales, Service and carrier partners to deliver competitive pricing.

• Clearly document underwriting decisions, assumptions, alternates and deviations.

• Participate in workflow management and support the effective movement of underwriting work.

• Support underwriting leadership with carrier communications and process improvements.

What you need

• At least 3 years of underwriting experience.

• Strong understanding of group benefits underwriting principles and contract language.

• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

• Experience creating proposals for external audiences is preferred.

• GBA designation is preferred.
