Full job description

Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) — Independent Contractor, Fully Remote (Ontario)

Evoke Learning is looking for a speech-language pathologist to join our multidisciplinary team as an independent contractor, providing virtual literacy assessments for elementary and secondary students across Ontario.

About Evoke Learning

At Evoke Learning, we specialize in research-informed academic support, intervention, coaching, and tutoring for neurodivergent students from Grade 1 through postsecondary. Founded in 2008, we’ve grown into a multidisciplinary team of registered social workers, psychotherapists, speech-language pathologists, certified coaches, communicative disorders assistants, and educators, all working from the belief that every learner deserves to be understood, supported, and empowered toward independence.

Our Reading Remediation program is grounded in the science of reading and structured literacy principles. This role plays a key part in that program by providing the assessments that guide individualized, evidence-based intervention.

The Role

As our SLP, you’ll conduct virtual reading, writing, and spelling assessments before students begin Evoke Learning’s Reading Remediation program, and again after approximately 50 hours of intervention to measure progress. Your assessments help build a clear picture of each student’s literacy profile and guide targeted, individualized instruction.

This role is a great fit if you value student-centred practice, research-informed literacy assessment, clinical autonomy, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

What Independence Looks Like Here

As an independent contractor, you’ll set your own availability and caseload within Evoke Learning’s assessment hours, use your own professional judgment for assessment methodology and clinical recommendations, and manage your own scheduling, materials, and professional obligations. Evoke Learning provides client referrals, assessment templates, EMR software (Jane app), and access to a collaborative professional network.

Schedule

  • Minimum six hours/week (approximately 22–25 hours/month)
  • Assessment hours: weekdays 8 am–3 pm, PA days 8 am–4 pm, and weekends (priority given to candidates available at least half of a weekend day)

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct comprehensive virtual reading, writing, and spelling assessments using standardized, research-informed tools
  • Review intake and background information, then analyze results to identify literacy strengths, skill gaps, and patterns consistent with dyslexia and other language-based learning difficulties
  • Contact families within 24 business hours of referral and schedule assessments within eight business days
  • Prepare clear assessment reports and complete documentation within five business days
  • Conduct follow-up assessments after ~50 hours of intervention to measure progress and inform next steps
  • Offer brief consultation calls to families when requested

What You’ll Need

  • Master’s degree in speech-language pathology
  • Current registration in good standing with CASLPO
  • Current professional liability insurance
  • Minimum two years of experience conducting virtual literacy assessments or treatment, including with elementary and secondary students
  • Familiarity administering and interpreting tools such as the CTOPP-2, PAST, Gallistel–Ellis Test of Coding Skills, Morrison–McCaul Spelling Scale, and TILLS
  • Strong grounding in the science of reading, structured literacy, and evidence-based reading intervention (phonological awareness, decoding, orthographic mapping, fluency, spelling/encoding, language comprehension)

Nice to Have

  • Experience assessing students with dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, and other learning disabilities
  • Experience identifying cognitive factors affecting literacy (RAN, phonological memory, working memory, processing speed)
  • Experience writing accommodation recommendations and collaborating with educators, psychologists, and other health-care providers

Compensation

  • $80 to $100/hour
  • Paid orientation and onboarding before client work begins
  • Access to Evoke Learning’s systems, templates, and multidisciplinary collaborative network

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply with their resume and CASLPO registration details.

Pay: $80.00-$100.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Flexible schedule
  • Work from home

Work Location: Remote
