Karen Medical Interpreter (Remote in Canada)

We are hiring Karen Medical Interpreters for current openings to support critical communication needs across Canada via Over-the-Phone Interpretation (OPI) and Video Remote Interpretation (VRI) services.

As an interpreter supporting healthcare providers, emergency services, insurance organizations, financial institutions, legal services, and public service agencies, you may be assigned calls involving sensitive, emotional, or potentially distressing subject matters, such as medical emergencies, violence, or other critical situations.

Due to the nature of this role, some calls may require extended engagement or occur during periods of high call volume. Interpreters are expected to maintain professionalism, composure, accuracy, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity at all times while adhering to company standards and ethical guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide real-time interpretation between Karen and English speakers using OPI (Over-the-Phone Interpretation) and VRI (Video Remote Interpretation) platforms.

· Facilitate communication in healthcare, insurance, legal, financial, emergency services and public service settings.

· Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity.

· Manage video interactions professionally, ensuring appropriate visual communication and etiquette. Accurately convey meaning, tone, and intent while maintaining communication flow between all parties.

· Participate in training, quality monitoring, and performance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

· Fluent in Karen and English (speaking, reading, listening, and comprehension).

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Minimum 18 years of age, reside in BC, AB, SK, MB, NB, NS, PEI or NL, and legally authorized to work in Canada.

· Strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.

· Emotional intelligence and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

· Comfortable using technology and web-based communication platforms.

Technical Requirements

· Dedicated personal device (desktop, laptop, or tablet).

· Functional webcam with appropriate lighting for video interpretation sessions.

· Reliable high-speed internet connection (speed test may be required).

· Professional noise-cancelling headset (required or willingness to purchase).

· Ability to work independently in a quiet, distraction-free workspace.
