Job Summary
The Student Health & Wellness Centre provides primary health care, counselling services, and, where appropriate, specialist care to Dalhousie and King’s students and registered community patients. Reporting to the Director, Operations, the Student Health & Wellness Clerk supports the delivery of clinical and administrative services and serves as a first point of contact for patients. The role is responsible for maintaining the inventory of medical equipment and supplies, stocking clinical areas, sterilizing clinical instruments and equipment, and providing support. In addition, the position provides reception services, including appointment scheduling, patient intake, and administrative support to healthcare providers, while ensuring a professional, compassionate, and efficient patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sterilize instruments and carry out duties to maintain exam/procedure rooms. Disinfect, stock, and shut down exam/procedure rooms. Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and serviceability of clinic facilities and equipment; arrange for maintenance and repair as needed.
- Process and prepare specimens as directed by physicians to be delivered to the lab.
- Order and maintain inventory of clinical supplies, as required to support day-to-day clinical operations, keeping track of equipment balance and reorder timelines.
- Obtain basic patient vital signs, patient demographics, and insurance information as appropriate; prepare and update medical charts and associated records, and enter patient data into the electronic medical records.
- Provide front desk reception duties at the Student Health & Wellness Centre including appointment booking and patient registration (using in person, phone and online systems to book appointments, prepare and update client charts with current demographic and insurance information, greet and check patients in for their appointments).

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
This position has a 35-hour weekly schedule of Tuesday to Friday (11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.) and Saturdays (8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). From June through August, the schedule is Monday to Friday. All scheduling is subject to change, with appropriate notice, based on operational requirements.

Required Qualifications
- Completion of a Medical Device Reprocessing Course, a Medical Office Administration program with 1-3 years of related experience in a medical office (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Excellent working knowledge of medical terminology and common clinic medical equipment and supplies.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a busy, fast-paced environment required and ability to handle a large volume and a wide variety of patients.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential along with good organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to lift 25lbs.
- Basic computer skills (word processing, email, spreadsheets, and internet).
Assets
- Experience with equipment sterilizing.
- Proficiency in working with an electronic medical software system.
- Immunizations must be up-to-date for successful candidate.
