Job Description

The QA/QC Coordinator, Minerals and Mining supports and coordinates quality assurance and quality control activities for minerals and mining projects, with a strong focus on steel fabrication and manufacturing oversight. The role is primarily office-based and requires periodic travel to fabrication workshops to verify compliance with project requirements, applicable codes, and approved quality documentation.

This position reports to the Manager of Project Integration – Minerals and Mining.

Key Responsibilities:

Quality Assurance & Quality Control:

  • Coordinate and implement project QA/QC requirements in alignment with company and client quality systems.
  • Review and track Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Quality Plans, and related QA/QC documentation.
  • Ensure fabrication and manufacturing activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Monitor supplier-submitted quality records (e.g., inspection reports, material certificates, test records) to confirm compliance with purchase order requirements before and after delivery.
  • Support non-conformance reporting (NCR) processes and follow-up on corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support the continuous improvement, development, and maintenance of the Company Quality Plan, QA/QC procedures, and quality management systems, incorporating lessons learned, audit findings and project feedback.

Supplier-Related Activities:

  • Perform visits to steel fabrication and manufacturing workshops alongside appropriate Subject matter Experts (SMEs) from engineering, procurement, or other relevant stakeholders for First Piece Approval (FPA) or Pre-production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities as required.
  • Clarify quality expectations with suppliers based on purchase order requirements, technical specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Review welding documentation, including WPS, PQRs, welder qualifications, and NDT reports.
  • Support supplier qualification and evaluation activities by reviewing quality capabilities, historical performance, and compliance with project-specific requirements.

QA/QC Coordination:

  • Work closely with Engineering to clarify technical and quality requirements.
  • Support Procurement with vendor evaluations, quality documentation reviews, and expediting activities.
  • Interface with Project Management, Construction, and Site QA/QC teams to resolve quality-related issues.
  • Support internal and external audit activities, including preparation of documentation, participation in audits, and follow-up on findings.
  • Maintain accurate and auditable quality records within document management systems to ensure traceability and compliance.

Qualifications

Requirements Skills / Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or degree in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Welding Technology, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • QA/QC, inspection, or welding-related certification is an asset.
  • 5–10 years of experience in QA/QC roles within minerals, mining, or heavy industrial projects.
  • Experience in steel fabrication and manufacturing workshop environments.
  • Exposure to welding inspection activities and fabrication quality control.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards such as AWS, ASME, and ISO.
  • Quality Lead Auditor, Supplier Quality Engineer and/or Quality Engineer by a recognized institution such as ASQ preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural and mechanical drawings.
  • Solid understanding of fabrication drawings, technical specifications, and quality documentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and document management system.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with construction site environments and safety requirements.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to fabrication sites and/or client sites.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
