Key Responsibilities

  • Clean, disinfect, inspect, package, and sterilize dental instruments.
  • room turn over and set up
  • Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners.
  • Follow infection-prevention and control procedures and workplace safety policies.
  • Monitor and document sterilization cycles, including chemical and biological indicators.
  • Maintain accurate sterilization and equipment records.
  • Assemble and organize instrument trays for dental procedures.
  • Store sterilized instruments appropriately and check package integrity.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sterilization area.
  • Identify damaged, contaminated, or improperly sterilized instruments and take appropriate action.
  • Restock dental supplies and sterilization materials.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of sterilization equipment.
  • Handle contaminated instruments using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Communicate with dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and other clinic staff regarding instrument availability and infection-control concerns.
  • Help with charting if feasible
  • Follow applicable provincial/territorial infection-control requirements and clinic policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
  • Dental sterilization/infection-control training is an asset.
  • Previous experience in a dental, healthcare, medical device reprocessing, or sterilization environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work safely with contaminated instruments and chemicals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.

Typical Working Conditions

The technician generally works in a dental clinic or dedicated sterilization area. The position may involve standing for extended periods, repetitive instrument handling, wearing PPE, and working around cleaning chemicals and sterilization equipment.

Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour
