Medical Runner

Position: Medical Runner
Setting: Family Medical Clinic
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable, organized, and motivated Medical Runner to support physicians and the clinical team in the day-to-day operations of a busy family medical practice.

The Medical Runner plays an important role in maintaining efficient patient flow, preparing patients for their appointments, and completing clinical and administrative follow-up tasks.

Previous experience administering injections or performing clinical procedures is NOT required. Training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Escort patients from the waiting area to examination rooms and prepare them for their appointments.
  • Obtain and accurately document vital signs in the patient's electronic medical record (Avaros EMR), including blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, weight, height, and other measurements as required.
  • Administer injections and assist with other clinical procedures after receiving appropriate training. Previous injection experience is not required.
  • Prepare examination rooms and ensure necessary supplies and equipment are available.
  • Support physicians with patient flow and clinical tasks throughout the day.
  • Complete and manage physician ticklers/tasks and ensure requested follow-ups are completed promptly.
  • Send and receive faxes and ensure documents are properly directed and filed.
  • Follow up on specialist referrals, including contacting specialist offices regarding appointment status, missing information, reports, and outstanding requests.
  • Communicate with hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, specialist offices, and other healthcare facilities as required.
  • Monitor clinic emails and route messages to the appropriate physician or staff member.
  • Follow up on outstanding reports, documents, referrals, and physician requests.
  • Update patient charts and maintain accurate documentation in the EMR.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow clinic privacy policies and procedures.
  • Assist physicians and other clinic staff with additional duties as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous experience in a medical clinic or healthcare environment is an asset but not necessarily required.
  • Previous injection or clinical procedure experience is not required — training will be provided.
  • Comfortable working directly with patients.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable using computers, email, fax systems, and electronic medical records.
  • Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced medical clinic environment.
  • Willing to learn injections, clinical procedures, and clinic protocols.
  • Professional and respectful when communicating with patients, physicians, pharmacies, hospitals, and other healthcare providers.
