Full job description
Citywide Notes is looking for skilled Computerized Note Takers to provide high-quality academic notes for university students who receive academic accommodations. If you have excellent listening, writing, and typing skills and enjoy supporting student success, we'd love to hear from you.
This is an in-person position. It is not a remote role.
Preference will be given to candidates with strong academic backgrounds in one or more of the following subject areas:
- English
- Social Sciences
- Humanities
- History
- Social Work
- Psychology
About Citywide Notes
Our mission is simple: to make learning equitable and accessible for everyone.
Citywide Notes partners with colleges and universities across Canada and the United States to provide academic accommodations for students with disabilities. Our Computerized Note Takers play an important role in helping students access course content and achieve their academic goals through clear, accurate, and well-organized notes.
About the Role
Computerized Note Takers attend university lectures in person and create professional electronic notes that accurately capture course content. Notes should reflect lectures, discussions, presentations, videos, group activities, and other relevant classroom interactions.
Successful candidates are attentive listeners, strong writers, and dependable professionals who can accurately summarize information while maintaining confidentiality and meeting deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend scheduled university lectures in person and document course content using a laptop.
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before class begins to prepare for the assignment.
- Capture lectures, discussions, presentations, videos, group activities, and other relevant classroom interactions in clear, organized notes.
- Produce accurate, concise, and easy-to-follow notes that support student learning.
- Proofread, edit, and format notes before submission.
- Submit completed notes within required timelines.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Communicate promptly with Citywide Notes regarding scheduling or assignment-related matters.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree in a related discipline.
- Minimum typing speed of 70 words per minute.
- Excellent listening, writing, editing, and grammar skills.
- Strong ability to analyze information and produce clear summaries.
- Ability to maintain focus during lectures with multiple speakers and varying classroom environments.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Dependable, professional, and able to meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Access to a personal laptop with:
- Minimum 13-inch screen
- Minimum 3-hour battery life
- Successful completion of the Citywide Notes Computerized Note Taker Screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a Canadian post-secondary environment.
- Previous note-taking, transcription, or captioning experience.
- Completion of a two-year college program in Court Reporting, Real-Time Captioning, or a related field.
