Full job description

We are seeking a people-focused and dynamic Advocacy and Research Manager (ARM) to join our team. Reporting to the CEO, the Advocacy and Research Manager is a new position to the organization, presenting a unique opportunity to help shape the advocacy and research work of the organization. The ARM is responsible to provide leadership on advocacy and research, including building and implementing an advocacy and research strategy that collaborates with all departments to integrate messaging, leverage existing partnerships, and identify opportunities for alignment and continued collaboration.

The ARM will be responsible to build and steward relationships, in collaboration with the CEO and other Senior Leadership Team members as identified, with members of the research community, government representatives, external organizations, and Federation colleagues.

Additionally, the ARM will be responsible to identify and utilize data from the intersectionality and crossover between research and advocacy to ensure research findings are informing advocacy activities, and ensuring the advocacy strategy is data and evidence based.

Location: Saskatchewan – exact location dependent on successful candidate

Key Responsibilities:

· Advocacy:

o Provide leadership in Government advocacy, building and strengthening relationships with the Government of Saskatchewan and Opposition

o Provide leadership in community advocacy, working with community partners, SHA, and grassroots advocates

o Monitor dementia advocacy landscape, collect and analyze research and data to inform advocacy initiatives

o Participate in community conversations, collaborate with relevant organizations, and drive community engagement activities to inform and action collective impact as appropriate

o Lead development of advocacy tools including briefing notes, key messages, and position statements

o In collaboration with the Communications team, develop timely messaging on policy issues related to dementia, highlighting events, emerging issues and legislative changes to share with Society stakeholders both internally and externally

o Monitor systems, laws, regulations, policies, and experiences that identify obstacles or gaps impacting people affected by dementia

o Support and identify intersectionality with underserved communities, and unique needs and challenges experienced

· Research:

o Provide leadership in research knowledge translation/mobilization, making research findings accessible and supporting the translation of research into practical applications that can inform our advocacy strategy and messaging

o Manage and steward relationships with Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation and Alzheimer Society Research Program, ensuring our research priorities are in the forefront

o In collaboration with departments, amplify messages to increase knowledge of research impact to our community partners

o Manage aspects of research participation, including funding research requests, supporting research through letters of support, and research recruitment of PLWD and/or caregivers

Qualifications:

· Post-secondary education and 5+ years work experience in the advocacy and research space

· Proven success in relationship building, management, and leadership

· Strategic advocacy, influence, research, and analytical skills

· Strong organizational and communication skills.

· Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

· Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects, while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within Saskatchewan as needed.

· Subject to a vulnerable sector criminal record check.
