Sinai Health is looking for an experienced laboratory professional with previous leadership experience to join our team as a Supervisor, Diagnostic Medical Genetics. With new genetics methodologies and technologies on the horizon, you’ll join an enthusiastic team driving continuous innovation in Medical Genetics. Strong time management allows you to effectively balance competing priorities, from staffing adjustments and payroll to attendance tracking and performance management, without losing momentum. About this team:
The Diagnostic Medical Genetics Laboratory at Mount Sinai Hospital is a hub for cutting-edge diagnostic testing and innovative method and test development. We are dedicated to improving patient care through a deeper understanding of genetics. Equipped with advanced technologies, the lab offers a wide range of genetic and genomic testing, supporting diverse clinical needs across various specialties. A collaborative spirit thrives within the lab, bringing together a team of skilled professionals, including geneticists, genetic counselors, variant analysts, bioinformaticians, medical laboratory technologists and technicians. This team is united by a shared passion for unraveling the complexities of genetic disorders, pioneering new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and ultimately, making a tangible difference in the lives of patients and their families.

In this role you will:
  • Supervise day to day operations, organize movement, and approve workload/overtime among staff to ensure department operates in a manner that is efficient, volume and outcome responsive
  • Support the Sr. Manager in monitoring staff attendance and addresses concerns
  • Coach and mentor assigned staff to foster a positive atmosphere to support team building, collaboration, innovation and shared learning. Assist Sr. Manager in implementation of new process and procedures for new tests
  • Perform administrative responsibilities with the Sr. Manager, such as vendor follow up, utilization management, turnaround time monitoring, and client satisfaction to facilitate processes/procedure improvement in an efficient, effective work environment
  • Maintain a system for detecting, documenting, and reporting discrepancies/errors (SAFER reports); review appropriate corrective actions with Sr. Manager and implement process improvement with Charge MLT
  • Support Sr. Manager with financial responsibilities for assigned cost centers, including reporting and correcting discrepancies, verifying funded volumes, and preparing variance reports
  • Ensure completion of quality assurance activities and initiate timely adaptations to ensure quality control is maintained
  • Participate in professional development, teaching/educational activities, safety and quality improvement programs to ensure excellence in the provision of service
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required
Job Requirements:
Mandatory
  • Completion of advanced diploma in Genetics Technology
  • 5 years recent related molecular genetics experience in a hospital setting
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO). Dual registration in both Molecular and Cytogenetics
Preferred
  • Previous project management and new test implementation experience
  • Previous leadership experience (formal or informal)
Skills and Knowledge
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of clinical genetics laboratory operations and best practice within the department.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. Well-developed intrapersonal skills and the ability to influence change.
  • Commitment to continuing education and ability to meet continuing education requirements
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment, often under stressful conditions
  • Knowledge of quality control methods, accreditation requirements, and an understanding of how to develop metrics and benchmarks
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
