Clinical Assistant

About Us

We are a modern family medicine clinic opening in St. Thomas, Ontario, dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence‑based, patient‑centred care to individuals and families of all ages.

Our clinic is committed to medical education and offers opportunities to work collaboratively with medical students and resident physicians in a supportive teaching environment.

We are seeking a motivated, highly organized Clinical Assistant who is eager to become an integral member of our team and contribute to the development of an exceptional primary care practice.

Position Summary

Working under the supervision of the Family Physician, the Clinical Assistant will play a key role in patient care, clinic operations, and chronic disease management.

This role is ideal for an experienced Clinical Assistant, International Medical Graduate (IMG), or other regulated healthcare professional who thrives in a fast‑paced primary care environment.

The successful candidate will function as an extension of the physician, supporting both clinical and administrative responsibilities to ensure efficient, high‑quality patient care. No two days will be the same—you will transition confidently between patient care, administrative duties, telephone triage, and clinic coordination while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and service.

Knowledge of Accuro EMR is an asset.

Responsibilities

1. Clinical Care

  • Obtain comprehensive patient histories and prepare patients for physician assessment.
  • Document encounters accurately within the EMR.
  • Assist with chronic disease management, well‑baby visits, prenatal and postnatal care, and preventative health visits.
  • Review laboratory and imaging results under physician supervision and prepare charts for physician review.
  • Arrange investigations and specialist referrals as directed.
  • Communicate normal and physician‑approved results to patients.
  • Coordinate follow‑up appointments and recalls.

Assist with and/or perform delegated procedures, including:

  • Vaccinations (all ages)
  • IM, SC, and ID injections
  • Suture and staple removal
  • Pap testing (where appropriately trained)
  • Other delegated procedures appropriate to primary care

2. Documentation

  • Complete forms under physician supervision, including:
  • WSIB, insurance forms, Service Canada, MTO, ODSP, CPP Disability, workplace forms, and medical reports.
  • Process incoming correspondence, consultations, hospital reports, and investigations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely EMR documentation

3. Patient Education

Provide patient education related to:

  • Lifestyle modification
  • Medication adherence
  • Preventative screening
  • Vaccinations
  • Diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic diseases

Reinforce physician treatment plans and ensure patient understanding.

4. Clinic Operations

  • Assist with maintaining efficient clinic flow.
  • Provide front‑office support as needed.
  • Prepare examination rooms and ensure readiness for patient visits.
