The Role
As an integral member of our ophthalmology team, you will play a key role in supporting patient care and clinic efficiency. Responsibilities include preparing patients and charts before they see the ophthalmologist by obtaining medical histories, measuring visual acuity, and assessing intraocular pressure.
You will assist the ophthalmologist during examinations by documenting findings, completing treatment plans, preparing reports and prescriptions, and helping ensure patients receive outstanding care throughout their visit.
You will also perform diagnostic testing and assist with Medical Office Assistant (MOA) duties to support the daily operations of the clinic.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain accurate patient charts and clinical documentation
- Obtain and document comprehensive patient histories
- Enter clinical information accurately into the EMR system
- Measure visual acuity and intraocular pressure (Tono-Pen; Goldmann Applanation Tonometry)
- Administer and document ophthalmic medications, including eye drops
- Assist the ophthalmologist during examinations, in-office laser procedures, and minor surgeries
- Explain treatment plans and provide patient education
- Perform diagnostic testing, including:
- Visual Field Testing
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT/(SDP)
- IOL Measurements
- Prepare reports, prescriptions, and other clinical documentation
- Maintain examination rooms, equipment, and clinic inventory
- Perform general Medical Office Assistant duties as required
Qualifications
- Previous ophthalmology experience is required
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Professional, compassionate, and patient-focused
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills
- Knowledge of standard medical office procedures
- Experience with EMR systems (Plexia experience is an asset)
- Ability to quickly learn new technology and clinical procedures
