Full job description
Medical Radiation Technologist – Mammography & Bone Density
Location: Downtown Toronto, ON
Job Type: Part-Time with Opportunity to Grow into Full-Time
Schedule: Starting at approximately 2 days per week, with the potential to expand to a 5-day-per-week/full-time position as the clinic grows
Compensation: $40–$50 per hour
The Opportunity
Altera Health Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a confidential private healthcare client in downtown Toronto seeking an experienced Medical Radiation Technologist to support its diagnostic imaging services.
This position will initially begin at approximately two days per week. As patient volume and clinic operations grow, there is a clear opportunity for the role to expand into a full-time, five-day-per-week position. The successful candidate will have the flexibility to remain part-time or pursue increased hours and a full-time schedule as the opportunity develops.
This is an excellent opportunity for an MRT who enjoys combining strong technical skills with a high level of patient care. The successful candidate will perform bone mineral density/DXA examinations, body composition imaging and mammography procedures while maintaining exceptional standards for image quality, patient positioning, safety and quality assurance.
The clinic provides a professional, patient-focused environment where appointments are designed to allow for thoughtful, personalized care rather than a high-volume imaging model.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality bone mineral density/DXA examinations, including lumbar spine, hip and other clinically appropriate protocols.
- Conduct total-body composition scans and ensure accurate acquisition and analysis of body composition data.
- Perform mammography examinations in accordance with applicable clinical, regulatory and facility protocols.
- Review images for positioning, technical quality, artifacts and overall diagnostic acceptability.
- Complete required equipment quality control, calibration and documentation procedures.
- Maintain accurate patient records and imaging documentation using electronic health record and digital imaging systems.
- Apply appropriate radiation safety, infection prevention and patient identification procedures.
- Work collaboratively with physicians and other members of the clinical team to support a seamless diagnostic experience.
- Provide clear explanations of procedures to patients and help them feel informed and comfortable throughout their appointment.
- Maintain confidentiality and consistently deliver professional, respectful and compassionate patient care.
Qualifications
- Current registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO), or eligibility for registration.
- Education and clinical background in medical radiation technology, radiologic technology or a related diagnostic imaging discipline.
- Minimum 1–2 years of hands-on bone density/DXA experience.
- Demonstrated experience performing central bone density examinations, including spine and hip protocols.
- Experience with total-body composition scanning is strongly preferred.
- A recognized bone densitometry credential, such as ISCD Certified Bone Densitometry Technologist (CBDT®) or ARRT Bone Densitometry certification, is strongly preferred.
- Appropriate mammography training and demonstrated competency for the mammography component of the position.
- Strong knowledge of bone mineral density, osteoporosis, fracture risk assessment, FRAX and body composition measurements.
- Experience using DXA analysis software and digital imaging systems such as PACS/RIS or comparable platforms.
- Strong attention to patient positioning, image quality and quality-control procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Preferred Background
Candidates with experience in any of the following environments are particularly encouraged to apply:
- Private diagnostic imaging clinics
- Preventive health or comprehensive health assessment programs
- Executive or concierge healthcare
- Multidisciplinary outpatient clinics
- Patient-focused specialty practices
What Makes This Opportunity Different
This position offers an opportunity to work in a modern private healthcare setting where imaging is integrated into a broader approach to patient assessment and preventive care.
The role may be particularly attractive to an experienced technologist looking for:
- A predictable starting schedule of approximately two days per week
- The opportunity to grow into a full-time, five-day-per-week role as the clinic expands
- The flexibility to remain part-time if that better suits your lifestyle
- A professional downtown Toronto clinical environment
- More personalized patient interactions
- The opportunity to use both technical imaging expertise and strong patient-care skills
- Collaboration with a multidisciplinary clinical team
- The opportunity to join a growing clinical operation at an early stage and expand your role alongside it
This recruitment search is being conducted by Altera Health Solutions on behalf of a confidential healthcare client. Additional information regarding the organization will be shared with qualified candidates during the recruitment process.
