Industrial Firefighter
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Rotating 12-Hour Day and Night Shifts
Reports To: Team Lead
Position Overview
Integrated Emergency & Safety Services is seeking qualified, safety-focused, and dependable individuals to join our emergency response team as Industrial Firefighters in Kitimat, British Columbia.
You will be responsible for providing fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical response, hazardous-materials response, fire prevention, and emergency preparedness services within a complex industrial environment. The successful candidate will work as part of a highly trained emergency response team and must be prepared to respond safely and effectively to a wide variety of incidents.
This is a full-time shift position working rotating 12-hour day and night shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responding to structural, industrial, vehicle, equipment, and outdoor fires.
- Responding to medical emergencies and providing first aid
- Performing rope rescue and confined-space rescue operations.
- Assisting with hazardous-materials incidents, spill response, gas releases, and other industrial emergencies.
- Operating fire apparatus, pumps, hose lines, monitors, portable equipment, and specialized rescue equipment.
- Conducting inspections, testing, cleaning, and routine maintenance of emergency vehicles, firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment, breathing apparatus, and rescue systems.
- Participating in daily training, emergency exercises, pre-incident planning, and competency evaluations.
- Conducting fire prevention inspections and identifying unsafe conditions or fire-protection deficiencies.
- Inspecting fire extinguishers, fire pumps, hydrants, alarms, suppression systems, and other emergency equipment as assigned.
Following all employer safety policies, operating guidelines, emergency procedures, and applicable occupational health and safety requirements.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess the following qualifications:
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and Firefighter II certification from an accredited training provider.
- Recognized rope rescue training.
- Recognized confined-space rescue training.
- Valid BC Class 3 or 4 driver’s license
- Occupational First Aid Level 3 or a higher recognized medical qualification.
- Ability to work rotating 12-hour day and night shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays.
- Ability to wear structural firefighting personal protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Ability to work safely at heights, in confined spaces, around heavy industrial equipment, and in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to meet the physical, medical, and functional requirements of an industrial firefighter position.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications and Assets
The following qualifications and experience will be considered assets:
- Previous firefighting, rescue, emergency medical, or first-responder experience.
- Experience working in a heavy industrial, manufacturing, mining, energy or marine.
- Air-brake endorsement.
- NFPA 1002 Fire apparatus Driver/Operator
- Hazardous-materials Operations or Technician certification.
- Vehicle or machinery rescue training.
- Marine firefighting or marine emergency response experience.
- Experience inspecting or maintaining fire-protection and emergency response equipment.

Conditions of Employment
Successful candidates may be required to:
- Complete a criminal record check.
- Provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
- Successfully complete a job-related physical abilities evaluation.
- Successfully complete a medical assessment and respiratory-fit testing.
- Complete drug and alcohol testing where required by company policy or site requirements.
- Maintain all required licences, certifications, and medical qualifications throughout employment.
- Participate in ongoing practical training and annual competency evaluations.
- Comply with all site access, security, health, safety, and emergency-response requirements.
Compensation and Benefits
Pay depending on experience and qualifications $45.00-$60.00 p/hr.
