Upper Canada Child Care - “A smile on each child’s face…every day.”
We are currently recruiting a Registered Early Childhood Educator(s) or equivalent (Child and Youth Worker or OCT Member) to join our Team in Cookstown at the following location: Cookstown Central PS.
This position is to fill an existing vacancy. This is a temporary position until April 2027.
New June 2026 pay rates!
Pay Range:
RECE or Equivalent: $26.59 - $30.39/hour (includes General Operating Grant) plus Wage Enhancement Grant (up to $2.00/hr) & Split Shift Premium ($2.00/hr)
*Candidates must be available to work a split shift in a before and after school program.
Position Type & Required Availability:
- Full-time Split Shift Position (31.25 hours/week): Candidates must be available to work a split-shift (morning and afternoon) in our Before & After School programs Monday-Friday to be considered.

Upper Canada Child Care also operates summer day camps at select locations, in addition to unique programs such as residential camp and forest school.
Position Summary:
To ensure operational and curriculum requirements are met while applying specialized skills and knowledge related to early childhood education. To deliver a developmentally appropriate, inquiry/play based program while ensuring compliance with all internal and external guidelines, policies and procedures. Supports the organization’s vision, mission, and guiding values. This is a fully in-centre position.
Job Responsibilities:
- Applies professional knowledge of child development and current legislative expectations to support a program that is consistent with Ministry of Education requirements and in accordance with Upper Canada Child Care’s program statement.
- Adheres to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice as outlined by the Ontario College of Early childhood Educators (if applicable).
- Keeps team and supervisor apprised of compliance issues or problems related to governing regulation and internal policy.
- Engages with the children and provides a positive learning experience. Provides a range of care including assisting with meals/snacks, toileting, diapering, dressing, etc.
- Participates in professional development opportunities, staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Completes program charts, daily logs, reports, and other administration tasks as required.
- Provides guidance to assistant educators, students and volunteers as needed.
- Models expectations for student teachers from colleges, universities, secondary schools, etc. Completes documentation from Educational Institutions as required.
- Fosters the engagement of and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children. Attends parent and community meetings as needed.
- Uses Storypark for pedagogical documentation as a guide for program development.
- Effectively collaborates and communicates with other team members, school personnel, and outside agencies to help support the needs of all children.
- Identifies children in need of additional support. Guides parents through the process of accessing resources. Helps design and implement individual support plans as required.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education (or approved equivalency) from a recognized college or university.
- A recent Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
- At least 18 years of age or older due to licensing requirements.
- Health assessment and up-to-date record of immunization as outlined by legislation.
- Up-to-date registration with the College of ECEs (if applicable).
- Up-to-date certification in CPR-C and Standard First Aid (training provided upon selection if required).
- Experience with inquiry/play based program design and implementation, and with the use of pedagogical documentation.
- Uses initiative; applies sound reason in solving problems and resolves conflict in a calm, professional manner.
- Proven ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively and establish appropriate relationships with families, coworkers and other professionals.
- Have the physical and emotional stamina to effectively supervise children in a variety of settings including outdoor public spaces.
- Ability to use computer systems and programs; including Dayforce, and Storypark.
- Moderate level of physical effort is regularly required; including but not limited to kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, and carrying.
