Full job description

Ajax Eye Care is looking for a new team member to join our busy, growing optometry clinic and optical boutique in South Ajax.

This is a great fit for someone who enjoys helping people, learning new skills, staying organized, and being part of a team that takes patient care seriously. It is also a busy role. Our team supports patients, doctors, phone calls, appointments, payments, insurance claims, pre-testing, and many moving pieces throughout the day.

We are looking for someone who is warm, reliable, detail-oriented, coachable, and interested in building a long-term role in a healthcare environment.

The schedule is 20–40 hours per week, including up to two evenings per week until 7:00pm and up to three Saturdays per month from 10:00am–4:00pm.

Who We Are

Ajax Eye Care is a vibrant, progressive, full-service optometry office located in South Ajax.

We are a patient-focused clinic that offers comprehensive eye care, advanced testing, specialty services, and an optical boutique. We work hard, keep learning, and take pride in creating an experience where patients feel genuinely cared for.

Our team culture matters to us. We support each other, celebrate wins, enjoy team events, and try to make a busy clinical environment feel positive, respectful, and rewarding.

We are closed on statutory holidays and long weekends.

Who We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Enjoys working with people and creating a great patient experience
  • Is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and able to follow through
  • Can stay calm and professional in a fast-paced environment
  • Is friendly, confident, and comfortable speaking with patients in person and over the phone
  • Can multitask while still paying attention to details
  • Is open to feedback and willing to keep learning
  • Takes initiative instead of waiting to be told every next step
  • Wants to become a reliable, long-term part of a healthcare team

Previous experience in optometry, optical, dental, medical reception, pharmacy, retail, hospitality, or another busy customer-facing environment is an asset.

You do not need to know everything already. We are happy to train the right person. However, reliability, professionalism, warmth, and a strong work ethic are essential.

What Our Optometric Assistants Do

Responsibilities may include:

  • Welcoming patients and helping them feel comfortable
  • Answering phones and booking appointments
  • Checking patients in and out
  • Processing payments and submitting insurance claims
  • Performing pre-testing as instructed by the doctors
  • Helping keep patient flow organized and on time
  • Supporting patients who may be nervous, confused, upset, elderly, or in a hurry
  • Communicating clearly with doctors and team members
  • Helping maintain a clean, organized, professional clinic environment

As you grow in the role, there may be opportunities to develop additional skills in areas such as optical, glasses production, patient education, specialty testing, sales, or medically focused services.

A Realistic Note About the Role

This is not a quiet desk job. It is a busy healthcare role that requires energy, patience, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle several priorities at once.

The work is rewarding, but the pace can be demanding. The right person will enjoy helping people, solving problems, learning new things, and being part of a team that depends on each other.

Because we invest significant time into training, we are hoping to find someone who is interested in settling into the role and growing with the clinic over time.

  • Paid training
  • Career development and continuing education
  • Vision care benefits
  • Health spending account
  • Paid time off

  • Closed on long weekends

We thank all candidates for applying. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
