Full job description

Prince Edward Animal Clinic is a well-established, independently owned small animal practice in Toronto's west end. We're a close-knit team that believes exceptional veterinary medicine begins with exceptional people.

We value relationships, learning, continuity of care, thoughtful communication, and creating an environment where both our clients and our team feel genuinely cared for. As our practice continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Veterinary Practice Manager who shares those values and wants to help shape the next chapter of our hospital.

This isn't simply an administrative role: we're looking for a leader.

If you're looking for an opportunity where your leadership will have a real impact, not only on daily operations, but on the culture and future of an independent practice, we'd love to hear from you.

The Opportunity

As Veterinary Practice Manager, you'll become the operational leader of our hospital.

Working closely with our Hospital Administrator, you'll lead the day-to-day operation of the practice, support and develop our team, improve systems and workflows, and help ensure we continue delivering the level of care our clients have come to expect.

You'll have the autonomy to lead operational decisions while collaborating with the leadership team on the continued growth and success of the practice.

Key Responsibilities

You'll be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and operation of the hospital, including:

  • Leading, mentoring and developing the hospital team, including Client Care Representatives, RVTs and Veterinary Assistants
  • Leading recruitment, onboarding and performance management for the hospital team, while participating in the recruitment and onboarding of Associate Veterinarians as part of the leadership team
  • Building a positive, respectful and accountable workplace culture
  • Recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, coaching and performance management
  • Supporting team members through regular feedback, mentorship and professional development
  • Addressing challenges and difficult conversations with fairness, consistency and empathy
  • Improving workflow, efficiency and operational systems
  • Implementing and maintaining hospital policies, protocols and operational standards
  • Managing inventory and vendor relationships
  • Monitoring key operational and business performance indicators, identifying opportunities for improvement, and working with the Hospital Administrator to implement initiatives that improve efficiency, productivity and profitability
  • Helping ensure an exceptional client experience while supporting high standards of patient care

The Person We're Looking For

You'll enjoy this role if you:

  • Have several years of leadership experience managing a veterinary practice
  • Have a proven track record of developing strong teams and improving workplace culture
  • Have successfully improved communication, staff engagement and employee retention
  • Understand veterinary business operations, including KPIs, benchmarking and operational performance
  • Are comfortable using data to guide decisions and measure success
  • Have experience managing budgets, inventory and operational resources responsibly
  • Believe leadership is about coaching people, not simply managing them
  • Are comfortable having respectful but difficult conversations
  • Lead with integrity, emotional intelligence and sound judgment
  • Enjoy improving systems while never losing sight of the people behind them
  • Are looking for a long-term leadership opportunity where you can make a meaningful contribution

The Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) designation is considered a strong asset.

Our Leadership Team

You'll work closely with our Clinic Owner (provides medical leadership and clinical direction) and Hospital Administrator as part of a collaborative leadership team.

As Veterinary Practice Manager, you'll lead the day-to-day operations of the hospital with autonomy and accountability.

The Hospital Administrator focuses on strategic planning, financial oversight and the long-term growth of the practice. Together, you'll collaborate on major hiring decisions, operational priorities and strategic initiatives.

We believe the best decisions are made through trust, mutual respect, open communication and shared leadership.

What We Offer

  • A genuine leadership role with autonomy and responsibility
  • The opportunity to help shape the future of an established independent practice
  • A collaborative leadership partnership where your ideas and experience will be valued
  • Competitive salary starting at $95,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications
  • Health and dental benefits
  • Continuing education allowance and professional development support
  • Professional membership support (OVMA, VHMA)
  • Paid vacation
  • A modern, tech-forward hospital with an experienced team, a loyal and well-established client base, and a strong reputation in the community.

To Apply

Please send us your resume and a cover letter.

In your cover letter, we'd love to hear about a leadership initiative you're particularly proud of. It could involve improving workplace culture, developing your team, streamlining operations, enhancing the client experience or improving the financial performance of the practice.

Tell us what the challenge was, what role you played, and what you learned from the experience.

If you're looking for an opportunity to lead a team, contribute to the continued growth of an independent practice, and become an important part of its future, we'd love to hear from you.
