About VAHS
Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society (VAHS) was established in 1991 to address the lack of culturally appropriate healthcare for Indigenous people living in Vancouver. Grounded in Indigenous worldviews, VAHS provides a broad range of health and wellness services that address the social determinants of health and support the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of the community.
About the Women’s Mobile Primary Care Program
The Women’s Mobile Primary Care Program (WMPC) provides equitable, holistic, trauma-informed and culturally grounded healthcare to urban Indigenous women and gender-diverse people in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
Our mobile health team brings primary care directly into community spaces and works to reduce barriers to accessing healthcare. The program brings together Western medical practices and Indigenous traditional knowledge through a Two-Eyed Seeing approach.
About the Role
VAHS is seeking a reliable, adaptable and compassionate Medical Outreach Administrative Worker to join the WMPC casual on-call pool.
The Medical Outreach Administrative Worker provides administrative, outreach and logistical support during WMPC clinics and community outreach activities. Responsibilities include assisting with client intake and registration, maintaining documentation and supplies, accompanying clients to appointments, supporting advocacy and communicating with community partners.
This is a casual, on-call position with no guaranteed hours. Shifts are offered according to program needs and employee availability.
Potential shifts may occur Monday through Thursday, generally between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, although hours may vary depending on program needs and outreach activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with setting up and closing mobile clinic spaces at designated outreach locations
- Welcome clients and support a respectful, culturally safe and trauma-informed environment
- Complete intake documentation and accurately register clients in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Provide administrative support to WMPC team members during clinic hours
- Accompany and support clients attending specialist appointments, laboratory appointments, hospital visits, advocacy appointments and other healthcare or community services
- Maintain and organize medical supplies, forms and outreach materials
- Communicate professionally with community partners and outreach site staff
- Assist with documentation, scheduling, follow-up and other administrative duties as required
- Maintain client privacy and confidentiality at all times
- Follow VAHS policies, procedures and workplace health and safety requirements
- Perform other related duties necessary to support WMPC operations
Qualifications
- Minimum one year of administrative or outreach experience in a healthcare, community or social services environment preferred
- Experience using an electronic medical record (EMR) system for client or patient registration is an asset
- Knowledge of Indigenous communities, Indigenous cultural safety and trauma-informed practice is an asset
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and comfort working with diverse populations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when working with sensitive information
- Ability to travel to multiple community locations within Vancouver
- Ability to lift and carry outreach supplies weighing up to approximately 20 lbs
Working Conditions
This is a casual, on-call position with no guaranteed minimum number of hours. Work schedules will vary according to program needs and employee availability.
The position involves a combination of mobile and community-based outreach locations and office-based administrative work. Duties may involve extended periods of computer work as well as travelling between community locations, carrying supplies and accompanying clients to appointments.
