Full job description

We are currently seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our law office. At Atwood Labine LLP, our greatest strength lies in our experienced staff of lawyers, clerks, and assistants. We foster a team approach, making the most of the experience and competencies of each individual member of our team. Our full-service firm has been servicing clients in Thunder Bay and the surrounding region for over 45 years.

The ideal candidate will possess:

· At least 2 years of experience as a legal clerk or administrative assistant; working in Criminal Law would be a tremendous asset

· Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact confidently and professionally with all levels of staff/lawyers and clientele

· Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity and in compliance with legislation

· Exceptional command of Microsoft Office and proficiency with basic technology

· Flexibility and adaptability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, handle a fast-paced work environment, and respond to changing priorities

The role includes some of the following responsibilities:

  • Research records, court files and other legal documents
  • Prepare legal documents and affidavits
  • Draft legal correspondence and perform general administrative duties
  • Manage lawyers’ schedule and handle correspondence to and from clients, other law offices, and Courts
  • Oversight of client retainer, billing and payment arrangements including with Legal Aid Ontario
  • Assist lawyers by assembling documentary evidence, preparing trial briefs, and arranging for trials

Wage: Commensurate with experience

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent, 35 hours per week
