If you’re an experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) looking for a meaningful career move—and a change in lifestyle—Island Health welcomes you. This regular, full-time position supports laboratory services in Alert Bay, Port Alberni, Port Hardy and Port McNeill on Vancouver Island, B.C., and requires travel between sites.

What You’ll Do

At Island Health, MLTs work closely with interdisciplinary teams in fast-paced healthcare environments where their expertise, accuracy, and collaboration directly support real-time clinical decisions every day. Your responsibilities and duties are:

  • Perform laboratory testing and analysis in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
  • Collect, prepare, process, and transport laboratory specimens.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation using computerized systems.
  • Perform instrument calibration, maintenance, and reagent preparation.
  • Monitor and manage laboratory inventory, supplies, and blood products.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Review quality control results and assist with troubleshooting to ensure accurate testing outcomes.

What You Will Need to Apply

  • Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Graduation from a recognized diploma program in Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Completion of core laboratory related courses or one year of recent, related experience within the last six years in the core laboratory section of the laboratory (or equivalent).
  • Successful completion of recognized competency assessment exam and registration in the relevant field(s) of practice in accordance with the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) pathways.
