Full job description

Join a specialized clinical diagnostic laboratory and help bring a new genomic technology into clinical practice.

Since 2005, RepeatDx has specialized in diagnostic Flow-FISH testing for telomere length, supporting physicians and hospitals across Canada, the United States, and Europe. Our testing helps physicians diagnose, manage, and monitor patients with serious and complex diseases.

RepeatDx is now expanding its diagnostic capabilities with the development and implementation of Strand-seq, a specialized single-cell sequencing technology.

Strand-seq selectively sequences the template DNA strands inherited by daughter cells. This preserves information about DNA replication and chromosome inheritance and enables the identification of sister-chromatid exchanges, chromosome abnormalities, structural variation, and patterns of chromosome segregation. For details of the technique see: https://rdcu.be/e9Wkk and the Supplementary movie in that paper.

We are looking for a Clinical Laboratory Technologist who is passionate about laboratory science, accuracy, quality, and patient care. The successful candidate will play an important role in establishing and implementing the Strand-seq laboratory workflow at RepeatDx.

What You'll Do

  • Perform laboratory procedures related to the Strand-seq and Flow-FISH programs in accordance with established laboratory SOPs.
  • Participate in the implementation and validation of Strand-seq as a clinical diagnostic test, including evaluation of materials, procedures, instruments, and laboratory techniques.
  • Perform cell preparation and flow cytometry/cell sorting, including single-cell isolation and deposition.
  • Process human blood and other patient samples according to established procedures.
  • Perform molecular laboratory procedures, including DNA extraction and sequencing library preparation, as required.
  • Prepare reagents and solutions according to approved SOPs.
  • Accurately record, review, and report laboratory results and observations.
  • Identify and communicate technical issues, unexpected results, or procedural concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and work areas and report equipment malfunctions to the Director of Laboratory Operations.
  • Work within RepeatDx's regulated quality management system and complete all required training and documentation.
  • Participate in method development, optimization, troubleshooting, and validation activities.
  • Provide orientation, technical information, and demonstrations of laboratory procedures and equipment to colleagues and new staff as required.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory procedures and quality systems.

What We Will Provide

  • Training in the laboratory workflow, equipment, SOPs, and quality requirements associated with Strand-seq.
  • Training and support in the implementation and validation of this emerging clinical genomic technology.
  • Ongoing professional development and opportunities to expand your expertise in molecular diagnostics and genomics.

Required Qualifications

  • B.Sc. or diploma in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant laboratory experience; 2–5 years preferred.
  • Experience working with human blood or cultured human cells.
  • Experience with flow cytometry cell sorting.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow detailed laboratory SOPs and accurately document laboratory procedures and results.
  • Experience working within a regulated laboratory or quality management system.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative laboratory team.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience operating a high-speed flow cytometry cell sorter.
  • Experience with processing and culture of primary human cells.
  • Experience with flow cytometry troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Experience with DNA extraction and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing and/or sequencing library preparation.
  • Experience in molecular genetics, genomics, or clinical laboratory testing.
  • Previous Strand-seq experience is an asset but is not required; comprehensive training will be provided.
  • Experience with genomic data analysis or bioinformatics is an asset but is not required.
