The position of Microbiology Laboratory Technician includes, but is not limited to, performing routine microbiological testing of pharmaceutical and nutraceutical formulations, ensuring all results and documentation are of high quality and are generated in a timely fashion, and complying with all aspects of GMP - as required by the Canadian Food and Drugs Act and supporting regulations. This includes but is not limited to the unique requirements required for pharmaceutical GMP compliance.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Perform routine microbiological testing of pharmaceutical/nutraceutical raw material and formulations in support of material release.
• Inform QC Supervisor if there is any out of specification results. .
• Ensure all analytical results and documentation are of high quality, generated in a timely fashion that comply with GMP regulations and data integrity/traceability requirements.
• Perform testing in accordance with assigned protocols, methods or procedures as written in SOPs
• Review and prepare routine technical documents as directed including SOP’s with the direction of QA.
• Plan and perform analytical tasks according to priorities.
• Report to the QC Manager on test results, delays or problems.
• Critically review data and recommend further action.
• Perform all tasks in accordance with local policies (e.g. microbiological waste disposal) and SOPs.
• Performs Environmental Monitoring of facility on monthly basis and write a report.
• Keep lab clean, instruments calibrated, manage laboratory inventory, organize retention samples and order all supplies needed.

Preferred Qualifications and/or Experiences:

• Post-secondary degree in an applicable discipline of science (microbiology, biochemistry, biology or related) or specific training (pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, nutritional research or related).
• Two or more years of laboratory experience preferably in pharmaceutical/nutraceutical or biotechnology related industry.
• Strong Aseptic Technique
• Advanced knowledge/understanding of GMP and GDP
• Knowledge of US FDA guidelines for manufacturing/packaging of pharmaceutical/nutraceutical products as well as USP chapters 60, 61, 2021 and 2022.
