Your Mission

As a Cross-Trained Emergency Medical Responder/Firefighter, you are a key member of the emergency response team, delivering lifesaving medical care and fire rescue services under the direction of the ERT Captain. This role combines hands-on emergency response with proactive responsibilities such as training, mentoring, equipment maintenance, and compliance with safety protocols. You’ll participate in drills, inspections, and continuing education, assist with onboarding new team members, and ensure readiness of all apparatus and facilities. With a focus on professionalism, hazard awareness, and teamwork, you’ll execute tactical assignments safely and efficiently while representing International SOS and the client with integrity.

How You’ll Contribute

As a Cross-Trained Emergency Medical Responder/Firefighter you'll step into a role where your skills save lives and protect communities—combining emergency medical care with fire and rescue expertise in a fast-paced environment:

  • Perform emergency and non-emergency duties under the direction of the ERT Captain, ensuring rapid and effective response.
  • Complete daily tasks and assignments that keep the emergency response team ready for action.
  • Foster a respectful, positive workplace by demonstrating professionalism and teamwork.
  • Comply with company policies on conduct, uniform, and appearance standards.
  • Attend daily start-of-shift meetings and other required safety briefings.
  • Participate in emergency response training, fire and rescue courses, and continuing medical education.
  • Prepare and assist with medical training for the emergency response team to strengthen team capability.
  • Mentor new hires during onboarding and help them complete induction requirements.
  • Inspect, maintain, and clean fire, rescue, and EMS apparatus, equipment, and facilities to ensure operational readiness.
  • Stay current on site-specific fire and rescue guidelines, medical protocols, rescue plans, and pre-incident plans.
  • Perform administrative duties as requested by the ERT Captain.
  • Represent International SOS professionally when interacting with clients and contractors.
  • Maintain standards of practice consistent with your governing regulatory body and operate within your license scope.
  • Execute tasks assigned by the officer-in-charge in accordance with emergency operations policies and guidelines.
  • Identify hazards at emergency scenes and report them promptly to the incident commander.
  • Complete tactical assignments safely and efficiently, ensuring adherence to the plan of action.
  • Participate in post-incident debriefs and investigations to improve response processes.

The Talent We’re Looking For


Must-haves (minimum requirements):
  • Work experience as a EMR/Firefighter
  • NFPA 1001, NFPA 1002, NFPA 472, NFPA 1006
  • Exceptional collaboration with other groups and the ability to work under pressure
  • Current registration with Alberta College of Paramedics
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Experience in an industrial setting
  • A high level of knowledge and the ability to interpret relevant medical and operational guidelines, protocols, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
