Full job description

Purpose

To provide clerical support to the assigned Paralegal where the Accident Benefits Clerk will be responsible for numerous tasks in order to build and organize client files.

Role And Responsibilities

  • Complete OCF forms according to the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS);
  • Communicating with insurance companies ensuring clients receive benefits as entitled under the SABS;
  • Schedule or reschedule IMEs if required;
  • Scheduling Case Conferences, LAT motions, client calls and settlement calls in a timely manner;
  • Preparation for mediations, LAT Case Conferences and LAT hearings;
  • Drafting and submitting Case Conference Summaries and LAT Applications;
  • Drafting correspondence to be sent to defense counsel, insurance companies, medical institutions and clients;
  • Identifying, organizing and summarizing documentation;
  • Preparing and providing medical briefs to various experts;
  • Preparing file closing documents;
  • Providing constant communication between client and team;
  • General management of files including handling of Accident Benefits from open to close;
  • Building and maintaining relationships with clients, insurance adjusters and healthcare providers;
  • Name and file various documents in Filevine on a daily basis;
  • Organizes and expedites flow of work, initiating follow-up action;
  • Maintains appointment calendars and coordinates arrangements for meetings / conferences;
  • Maintains office files/records in accordance with procedures;
  • Request cheques;
  • Draft disbursement accounts and fee accounts;
  • Research case law; and
  • Assist Paralegal / Lawyer in any other requests as required.

Qualifications And Education Requirements

  • 1 - 3 years experience;
  • Law Clerk and/or Paralegal Diploma;
  • Experience with PCLaw and Filevine is considered an asset;
  • Intermediate experience researching case law is considered an asset; and
  • Experience working in an office environment is considered an asset.
