Full job description

Thornlea Medical Centre (TMC) is seeking a full-time Medical Office Assistant/ Medical Lab Technician to join our team. TMC is a family practice medical office that also provides urgent care to our patients located in Toronto - East York (Don Mills Rd and Overlea Blvd). The candidate must be people-oriented, as we strive to provide the best patient care and feel that this care begins at the reception. The candidate must always be empathetic to our patients’ needs and be prepared to help physicians as needed.

We are looking for a people-oriented individual who is professional, empathetic, organized, and able to support both patients and physicians in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients to the clinic for scheduled appointments and walk-ins in a warm and professional manner
  • Register patients and verify/update patient information accurately
  • Triage patients and monitor the waiting room to ensure patients are prioritized appropriately
  • Handle specimens and prepare them for laboratory pick-up
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments according to clinic protocols
  • Assist physicians as needed, including taking patient vitals and performing ECGs
  • Maintain accurate patient records while ensuring confidentiality at all times
  • Perform administrative and clerical duties as required
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional reception and clinical area
  • Utilize EMR systems efficiently (TELUS PS Suite experience is considered an asset)

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Medical Office Assistant program or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a medical office or similar healthcare environment
  • Minimum 2 years of ECG experience
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills
  • Strong customer service skills with a positive and friendly attitude
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
