Clinic Manager - Ophthalmology and Dermatology Clinic

About Us

SERAC Eye & Skin Care Centre is a high-volume, multi-physician ophthalmology and dermatology practice providing surgical and medical care in Calgary. We are committed to delivering exceptional patient care while fostering a collaborative, respectful, and high-performing workplace.

We are seeking an experienced Clinic Manager who brings strong operational expertise, but more importantly, demonstrated excellence in people leadership.

Position Overview

The Clinic Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and operational performance of the clinic. This role works closely with physicians and ownership and serves as the central leader for administrative and clinical support staff.

Success in this role requires more than operational competence. It requires the ability to build trust, manage relationships thoughtfully, and lead with clarity, fairness, and emotional intelligence.

This is a leadership position in a fast-paced environment where strong judgment, steady decision-making, and high interpersonal awareness are essential.

Leadership & People Management

This role carries full responsibility for team leadership, performance oversight, and workplace culture.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain high-performing teams
  • Strong experience managing multi-disciplinary staff in a high-volume setting
  • Exceptional conflict resolution and mediation skills
  • The ability to provide clear, fair, and consistent performance management
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to navigate sensitive situations with discretion
  • A leadership style grounded in respect, accountability, and transparency
  • The ability to coach individuals based on their strengths while addressing performance gaps constructively
  • Confidence in making difficult decisions while maintaining professionalism and empathy
  • Experience building structured onboarding and training programs
  • Comfort leading staff meetings and setting clear expectations

The Clinic Manager must be someone who can maintain stability during busy or challenging periods and model professionalism across all levels of the organization.

Operational & Financial Oversight

  • Oversee clinic operations across ophthalmology and dermatology services
  • Ensure billing accuracy, reconciliation, and financial reporting
  • Review EMR statistics, accounts receivable, and physician reporting
  • Oversee payroll administration and compliance
  • Monitor and approve payables and supply procurement
  • Ensure compliance with Alberta Employment Standards and health privacy legislation
  • Lead process improvements and workflow optimization initiatives
  • Manage vendor relationships and facility oversight
  • Serve as liaison for leasehold improvements and external service providers

Physician & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with physicians and Physician Executive
  • Coordinate physician meetings and operational reporting
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of new physicians
  • Manage patient complaints and sensitive matters with professionalism
  • Maintain strong working relationships across physicians, staff, and external partners

Systems & Compliance

  • Oversee EMR optimization and implementation of system improvements
  • Maintain policies, procedures, and process documentation
  • Ensure compliance with the Health Information Act and Privacy Impact Assessment requirements
  • Oversee capital equipment procurement and IT coordination

Qualifications

Required

  • Demonstrated minimum 3-5 years experience leading teams in a clinical or healthcare environment
  • Significant hands-on experience in staff supervision, performance management, and conflict resolution
  • Strong financial and operational management background
  • Proficiency with physician billing, payroll oversight, and financial reconciliation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and independent decision-making
  • Strong relationship management skills

Preferred

  • Experience in ophthalmology or dermatology
  • Experience managing multi-physician practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Management, or a related field considered a valued asset
  • Advanced understanding of Alberta Employment Standards and health privacy legislation
  • Experience implementing or optimizing EMR systems (candidates with Accuro experience will be given priority)
